My Dead Girlfriend - Volume 1

Eric Wight

Another fun OEL (original English language) manga from Tokyopop, this series centers around a poor kid named Finney Bleak who's family members are cursed to die horrible (and often embarrassing deaths).  Depressed and picked on at school by a group of monster bullies, Finney both dreads his inevitable demise and loathes his life.  Secretly, he longs for a girl he spent one magical day at an amusement park with, and then never saw again.  The bold, striking and distinctive black and white art is both whimsical and dark.  Though filled with ghosts and other grim creatures, it is a light and funny romance that will appeal to both manga lovers and young goths.   A pinch of strong language makes this most appropriate for high school readers.
