Sharp Teeth
Toby Barlow

Anthony is drifting though life when he finds a job at the local pound.  He doesn't like many of his co-workers, and seems to be the only person who cares at all about the dogs.  Then a woman comes to the pound, hoping to find work for her brother.  They hit it off, and soon Anthony finds himself falling deeply in love.  She clearly has secrets, but he doesn't push, grateful for every moment they share.  Little does he know she came scoping out the pound for her leader, a master lycanthrope who has a cunning plan for survival of his pack.  But soon an uprising in the ranks changes everything for the new lovers, and potentially all of Los Angeles.

Written in free verse, this book moves fast and is quite excellent.  The portrayal of Los Angeles from the view of four footed fiends is terrific.  A 2009 Alex Award Winner (adult book for young adults), it is definitely an adult book that will appeal to teens who have read all the teen werewolf fiction and are looking for something more edgy and gritty.  Brutal violence, unabashed sexuality, and general dog behavior exhibited by humans assures that this should best be kept in the adult area and shared with select mature teens.  Highly recommended for those with a strong stomach and love of werewolf fiction.
