Forever in Blue: The Fourth Summer of the Sisterhood
Ann Brashares

Tibby, Lena, Carmen and Bridget are almost all grown up now...each finding a different way to pass the summer between their Freshman and Sophomore years of college.  They aren't so close anymore, and have come to count on the pants to connect them, rather than making a big effort to all hang out regularly.  One girl is suffering from depression.  Two get new crushes.  One travels overseas.  Two lose their virginity.  One totally freaks out about the possibility of being pregnant.  One goes off to theater camp.

For fans of the other books, this one is satisfyingly more of the same.  As much as I want to resist these books with rumors of idea-theft and book packaging, I love them for being sweet and honest teen soap operas, with complex characters who go through painful changes as they grow, just like real girls.  Some parents have complained that this book is not appropriate for middle school fans of the series, and I would say it isn't writen for them.  But for high school and college aged young women, this series is terrific.
