Hanging with Demelza's girlies

Spent most of yesterday with Demelza's friends. First, the end of the year class party at a local beach/picnic area (luckily, which has almost no sand. I hate sand). We played kickball on the grass (which I suck at), did some art (which I can do!) and wandered the pier. It is kind of an odd feeling to go to McNear's Beach because I used to ride there on my bike when I was in my teens, so it's all layered with half memories.

Afterward, a nap for me because all morning in the sun exhausts mom, then out to an evening with the girlies. I enjoyed getting to know D's classmates and their parents, but the group in the evening are all girls and their moms whom I really like. We went to see Maleficent--an interesting, almost odd movie. Great performance by Angelina Jolie and gorgeous visuals, but I don't know--there was something I couldn't quite put my finger on that didn't quite draw me in as much as I wanted. I did wonder if the person responsible for the fairies, pixies, goblins, etc was a Brian Froud fan because the denizens of faerieland looked just like his illustrations.

Our group shared a pizza for dinner and had such fun. It's wonderful to spend time with people who make you laugh and give you love.

The be-all and end-all of life--give and receive joy and love.

On a side note, I think it's amusing that just about every single one of Demelza's friends have what I consider princessy, girly names. (and yes, I am including Demelza in that list.) In my day, my friends were all plainer: Mary, Mary Ellen, Nancy, Kathy, Susan. Demelza's friends are Alessandra, Reanna, Savannah, Sophia, Angela...I feel all princessy just walking with them. ;-)
