In the building where I live, there are many people who simply leave things they do not want in the lobby for others to take. The president of the building hates this--
And frequently sticks everything in the trash, no matter whether it might be useful or not. When possible, I grab the items from the lobby, bag them and take them to the Goodwill. Today, I found really nice red leather shoes. In my size. SCORE! I love wearing red shoes.
Woke up to my daughter calling to ask if I could drive she and two students from her class to see Rogue One. I'd agreed yesterday to accompanying the class, but had hoped for a longer sleep in this morning once she left for school. Even with the ringer off on my cell phone, the buzz wakes me up. I really did want to see the movie--so drove Demelza and her friends to the theatre. Slightly chaotic, ten special needs students, two moms and four teachers got together. Maybe half went to see Moana and the rest to Rogue One. I was happy from the moment the movie began--it fits really well into the SW 'verse, and I enjoyed seeing how Jin and her motley crew fit into the familiar story. But it's sad at the end, even with glimpses of some familiar faces in the lead up to the original movie, A New Hope. Two thumbs up from me. I really liked the four male leads and particularly the sarcastic droid, K-2.
Gave up reading Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult after about fifty pages (and I read the end, which, honestly, I often do--). It was way too sad.
Began Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss--love, love, love this world. The first book, Name of the Wind, was fantastic. I read it about a year ago, because my nephew gave me the second book for Christmas last year, but after only a page or two, I was right back there with Kvothe and Bast, remembering bits from the first book. It's tres long, over a thousand pages, so after taking months to read Crimson Petal and The White (with several hiatuses to read other things, particularly the con zines for Bisto and SHarecon) who knows how long it's take me to get through Wise Man's Fear. oh well. ;-)
Trying to get back into Penny Dreadful--I think I have two eps left but I am less and less pleased with the characters apart from one another, especially the nasty story of Mr. Chandler's reunion with his father. And poor Vanessa Ives all alone being stalked by Dracula. I liked the first season by far the best of the three.
