Rainy, rain rain--went to bed hearing the rain pouring down, woke up the same way. It's winter time in California!
The Christmas tree in the cafeteria of the hospital. The reflections of the lights in the window create a beautiful effect.
For comparison, the hospital in progress across the street--I think the colour scheme is weird, but loved the geometric shape caused by the cranes across the front that day. I will not enjoy staring at that hospital every day when it is done. Apparently, the NICU will stay where we are but most of the patients in the current hospital will be moved to the colour block building--so it will be the view out our windows.
Demelza had bowling this morning (yay, she was out of the house for an hour and a half), so I worked on a story that needs to be posted in seven days. YIKES. It'll get done. Not sure it if will be edited, but...commitments, commitments.
We managed some Christmas shopping today, with the help of a nice employee at Barnes and Noble who went searching for Gary Puckett and the Union Gap which my godson asked for. We looked and looked and I finally located the single copy in the store. Whew--and on sale!
After raiding the calendar department, too, Demelza and I had to retire to Starbucks for revival before hitting the grocery store. Which did not have the mead I was wanting. Pout.
However, after dinner, we heard shouts and what we thought at first were sirens. A police raid outside our building? NO! It was the annual lighted boat parade. Now, mind you, I have lived here for 12 years--and the canal is directly across the street. There's even a vacant lot with direct access to the canal--and this is the first year I have ever watched the annual parade. I am generally working, or it's raining. But the rain had stopped mid-afternoon, and it wasn't much cold (due to the rain, which warms the air). Demelza and I ran across the street and into the soggy vacant lot to get a perfect view of the parade. The boats looked so pretty!
Need to wrap gifts tonight while watching MacGyver so I can start sending packages out in the mail on Monday.
We have a very holiday week crammed with Christmassy celebrations coming up--The Nutcracker tomorrow at one. Holiday Pops concert Tuesday at 7. Wednesday, an NICU Christmas luncheon at a fancy restaurant. I'll have salmon and brushetta, but pass on the Tiramasu. Yes, it's true, there is something with sugar I really dislike. Actually, it's the creamy cheese. Don't know why, because I love other creamy cheeses, just not that one. Then, Demelza has a Special needs Christmas dinner and dance on Friday. Plus, Special Olympics Christmas party Saturday morning and her friend's birthday party Saturday evening. Can I fall down now? At some point, I'll need to buy a tree...
Happy trails, everyone!
