The moon is almost full--

And what a gorgeous moon it is, big and bright in the still light sky. Simply breathtaking.

I've had a somewhat confusing work week--mostly not working. On Friday, I got home from yoga and was eating my lunch when the hospital called at 11:20. Could I get to work in the next hour for overtime? Why, yes, I could. I decided to finish my lunch and had two or three things to do before throwing on my uniform and running out the door. Wouldn't take fifteen minutes. Except not five minutes later (I was still eating the sandwich), the hospital staffer called back that the situation had changed and I was not needed early.

Okay--I'll be in at the usual time of three.

I lay down for a nap a little later, only to be woken by the staffer at 1:15 asking if I wanted the evening off! Weird but not all that surprising. (It happens a lot when we have a low census of babies). Yes, I would--I could go to Demelza's dance with her.

I'd had a cold a week earlier and had to take sick time, so it felt a little negligent to take more time off, but I do get paid. Had a great, busy, weekend. My sister's family has been in town and we were spending as much time as possible together.

On Monday, I was nearly out the door when the hospital called. I looked at that caller ID and nearly didn't answer because I wasn't going to take another day off. No, the staffer called to tell me I had to float to our satellite hospital (about ten minutes from the main hospital.) Okay--I wasn't surprised, just resigned, because I knew it must be my turn to float--which happens when we have a low census. I drove to the other hospital, navigated into the garage and checked my phone. I turn the ringer off when I drive. Oops--a voice mail! From the charge nurse, telling me that we got an admission in our unit, a float nurse was going to the satellite hospital and I should return to the ICN. Yay! However, I felt so topsy-turvey. I keep getting told one thing and then another.

It was a really quiet, completely uneventful, even should I admit, boring night in our unit. I had two babies I know really well who both slept nearly the whole 8 hours. I am so grateful to have the job, and in my own unit, and with a raise. I just want to do what I know how--you know?

Off to watch NCIS and then Scorpion.

ciao.
