Allen couldn't look away.
Before, with all the fear and the blood, he hadn't really thought about it, but now reality was hitting him full force - the hybrid was in his home, in his living room, sleeping on his couch, right next to him. It was... almost unbelievable.
And Allen had never seen him from up close before; well, at least not like this. Now that he was close, he couldn't help but notice just how strange the hybrid was - because he was such a strange mix of animal and human, he had an animal's ears and tail and his features were just so sharp and clean; and even while asleep there was a suggestion of gracefulness and... wildness about him. He was just so strange.
Completely unaware of Allen's scrutiny, Kanda slept like the dead, lying on his side with his head on his hands leaning against the pillow. His eyes were closed as he breathed slowly, his black hair strewn all over the place. The black feline ears were as dark as his hair, blending in and almost disappearing in the surrounding colour. Kanda shifted a little, his the tip of his tail flicked and a little sigh escaped his lips.
The hybrid looked warm and soft and peaceful, and Allen was feeling the tremendous urge to pet him. His hand itched to touch one of those funny ears. Would the fur be soft like a cat's? Or harsher? Would the hair be like the fur? Would the ear twitch if he touched it? Would it feel like petting a cat? And... were there human ears hidden by the hair, like in those cartoons?
Curiosity and eagerness burned in Allen. He really wanted to see, to touch and check for himself. But what if Kanda woke up? What if Mana saw?
The thought struck him into stillness.Only then did Allen realize he had already been leaning forward, right hand in mid air slowly progressing towards one of those tantalizing ears.
Panic seized him and he nearly leapt back even though he was still sitting on the couch, and his traitorous hand flew to hide behind his back as he pressed himself against the sofa like he wanted to melt into it and disappear. Heart hammering in his chest, the boy stood deathly still as he listened for steps in the hallway or an alteration on Kanda's breathing that would signal the Pet waking up.
But the hallway kept silent, Kanda's breathing remained as slow and steady as before, and Allen exhaled a small sigh of relief. He didn't really know what he was getting so worked up about, really, but... he just didn't want Mana to see him... well, petting, because that was the word, petting the hybrid. No particular reason. He just didn't want to be seen doing it.
And if Kanda woke up to see Allen doing that to him... let's just say Allen was rather attached to his hand and didn't really feel like parting with it as of yet.
One of Kanda's ears twitched, and Allen's traitorous eyes were once again captured.
The cat boy was- no, panther, or leopard, not a cat - the panther boy was sleeping so profoundly, and Mana was still busy in the kitchen... certainly Allen could do it just once? Maybe Kanda would purr or something. Oh. Ooooh, that would be amazing, that would be priceless. If that happened, Allen would never forget it. Hell, he'd probably end up laughing in Kanda's face for no apparent reason at random times for the rest of his life!
With a sharp smile and mentally cackling, the boy reached out to touch a silky black ear.
