AMC--Chapter Forty-Two

Feb 20, 2006 20:37

Yes, it is a day early. Sort of. But I finished it this afternoon and thought, "What the heck?" since it's three days late already. And I have warrant-type things (a.k.a. real work) to do tomorrow morning.

So here is the elusive Chapter Forty-Two, from the PoV of the recalcitrant Carnistir. As it turns out, this chapter is too large for LJ! So it ( Read more... )

Your prize is that you get to babysit wee Carnistir for the next week, since I've had him for too long now.

So were you good?? :^D

You make it sound like a punishment! :P I'm ready! And there's still plenty of snow.

So were you good?? :^D

Yep! *gasp* Well, sort of. I was supposed to do chemistry instead, which I...didn't do much of. I copied down the problems though! So it's a start...

A little oopsie (second paragraph after the first ~oOo~ thingy):

Softer footsteps, almost shuffling, enter a few seconds later. I press my cheek to the floor to watch them. It is cold and dusty; Macalaurë was last appointed to dust the floors, and it is like him to neglect the spaces under the furniture. I suppress a

...paragraph got cut off, that is.

This was a fun chapter to read... heehee, it's fun imagining a little kid speaking in sentences that require semicolons. (I'm not freaking out about "He's a kid, but his language is so advanced!" -- I just have a thing for noticing semicolons ^_^;)

And Macalaurë with all the musical "gnats" swarming around him... darn it, I'm going to be randomly recalling that image and bursting out laughing at totally inappropriate times now...

I also liked the interaction between Tyelkormo and Carnistir with the lettuce masks... reminds me of my younger siblings, heh...

Oh, thanks for noticing! I called up the document in my data deposit box (the best invention evah), and it seems that it is just missing a word: "I suppressed a sneeze." I don't know how it got cut off...but I dare not shake my fist at Deepest Sender (the likely culprit), as that is the second best invention evah. :)

Hehe...I remember you mentioning that somewhere! I am fond of the semicolon, colon, the dash, and other neglected punctuation marks, if you couldn't tell.

It reminds me of the sorts of things we used to do when I still worked in the restaurant.... o.O

Heehee, me too--I think I need to go to Dashaholics Anonymous, myself. ;)

OMG, Feanor and Carnistir sleeping together is cuteness overload. You should serve the beginning of this chapter together with toffees and fluffy bear-skin blankets (and afterwards receive a collective "Awwww!" from your audience).

Or better yet... *removes Carnistir and settles herself on Feanor's lap* *giggles* (I seem to be in another one of my silly moods today)

Loved this chapter. Carnistir is so weird cute. Okay, so he bites, but our tomcat does, too, so who cares? :-P

Hehe...I find it amusing that so many people find my Carnistir cute. He seems kind of mean and pathological to me, but then again, we are talking Feanorians!

Considers the Heroine on Feanor's lap....

Considers it very hard....

Aww, heck, I'm a Maedhros fangurl. You can have him. (But just to warn you, you might have to fight ann_arien for him! :^D)

Thanks! :) I'm glad it seems to so far be rather successful, given the circumstances of its writing. But then again, Carnistir seems to be a natural muse for me. I'm sure you know what I mean. ;)

(Incidentally, my precious Mae likes to resist heartily my attempts to write stories with him. Weird....)

I find it amusing that I find him cute. In RL I'd get urges to slap him after a few minutes, I fear. :-P

Hehe. But as I already mentioned once, I'm rather small, so I'd fit there just fine... but I really should have switch the topic now. Someone's shooting me dark glances. *pets jealous!grown-up!Caranthir*

Oh, if anyone does, it's certainly me! ;-)

Me too! :) People keep crooning about how much they love him--and indeed, I love him too--but I can't help but think, "Sheesh, if he was real, I'd want to kick him from here to Canada!" We had a lot of wee!Carnistir-types come into The Piece, back in the day. *shudders to remember*

Sleeping together...?

My god, that came out totally wrong now, didn't it? ;-)

Caranthir: Ewww, dirty girl.

Hehe...well who said that sleeping together necessitates something...erm...nefarious? >:^]

I knew what you meant. Scary.... ;^))

Well, I realized the ambivalence of what I said only when I re-read my post, hehe. (Caranthir accuses me that I simply have a dirty mind and find everything ambivalent...)

The first thing I am going to do is squee at how cute Carnistir is. Yes, I think he's cute... on paper, anyway, because I'd probably throttle him in real life. (well, most times, anyway ( ... )

he is not just weird, he is gifted

Or cursed.

Yeah...that's what they told us in school, too...;P

Gifted: adj.
1. Able to get away with giving the wrong answer
2. Having abnormally high abilities to b-s your way through something

*steals Carnistir*

At the same time, this chapter was revealing in the sense that only now, after reading quite a few chapters from Carni's POV, the reader becomes aware that he is not just weird, he is gifted.

Yes, I've had such fun showing his behavior from an outside perspective (i.e., Nerds or one of the brothers) and then getting inside his head to see why he behaves that way. He has a strange way of thinking sometimes, but then, he is only four. ;)

I don't know what were your intentions while writing the story, but I think that Feany's special closeness to his son is also based on Feany's knowledge that his son is different and has a special gift.

I would agree that Feanaro knows that there is something going on with his youngest...but I don't think he yet knows exactly what it is. If he would swallow his pride and ask his father for advice, Finwe might enlighten him a bit ( ... )

Yes, I agree with you. And it also gave me this nice. cozy feeling, while reading this chapter, to hear Carni saying that being close to his fahter is soothing and he feels peaceful. Thats was just so sweet.

I hope you all want to read fanfic into your 50s

I'll be there, no doubt. ;)

So I think it's safe to say that you will be seeing more of Carni and his special "talents" later on down the line.

Yes! Oh, yes! I look forward to it. Though I have a feeling it's not going to be all rosy and nice.

I love posting days (once I get over the anxiety, that is!)

Lol, me too. The anxiety and wringing of the hands is fun, too.

So you'll be hearing lots more from me, if you want.

Absolutely! Bring it on. :)
