I'd paint my body until all my skin was gone

You should be checking out:

Lydia
The New Frontiers
The Rise of Science
The Cast Before the Break

I'm listening to the new Lydia album a lot lately. I am so much in love with it that words can't exactly describe the sort of mindstate that album puts me in. I just know that it's a good place. It's been a long time since music has affected me this way and I can't express how much more happier I am with this new music I've discovered.

The New Frontier's debut album, Mending, is up there with Lydia in the competition for AOTY. Right now, I think I'd put Lydia before The New Frontiers but they're both excellent, solid releases that everyone should check out, regardless of what sort of music you listen to.

The Cast Before the Break's six-song concept album is played every day. I don't care if that sounds obsessive but it's damn good. This band is still fairly young so I can't wait to see where and how they evolve from here.

The Rise of Science did pretty shitty in competition for the absolutepunk.net's Unsigned Band Merch Contest, but I talked to Zachary - the bassist - and have pretty much realized why I love unsigned bands so much. They seem a lot more accessible and willing to interact with fans. It's not that signed bands don't, but sometimes I feel like they make more of an effort to be close with those who can and will appreciate their music. Plus, while I have a tendency to pimp out unsigned bands a lot, sometimes it's nice to be able to go back to them and have them as my little secret.

Pretty. Odd and Goodbye Blues are on their way to me. I am hoping to go down tonight before dinner and find a slip in my mailbox telling me they came today, but that might be wishful thinking. Campus mail is ridiculously slow. I'm so excited to sit down with both albums and listen to how these bands have changed since their last records. I know for sure that Panic has changed more than a normal progression, but you know what? I don't really care. I really like what I've heard and maybe because they do sound a little bit more folk-indie and a little less poppy, but I don't know why people are making such a big deal about it. If you don't like it, you don't like it. You can spout your reasons why - the main reason I've heard is that it sounds nothing like Fever and the band has gone in a completely different direction - but from the interviews I've seen of the boys, they're so happy with this record and just, god, Ryan smiles now. I don't fucking care if it lacks the wit seen in the last album because the most important thing about an album is that the band is happy with the final results. That's all I'm going to say about it.

I'm currently listening to Something Corporate, a band who despite being one of my favorites, I haven't listened to in a long time. I have hours and hours worth of Something Corporate songs and I plan on going through all of them. I forgot how much I adore Andrew McMahon and hate me for saying it, but I think I might like SoCo better than Jack's Mannequin. I don't know if it's that I just like Something Corporate as a band more or because I have a deeper connection since Something Corporate was the first band I listened to when I started to reach out from that era of boybands and teenie boppers.

Something I've also wanted to ask while on the topic of progression and change in bands, for those who are familiar with the following bands: Brand New, Boys Night Out, Panic At the Disco, Something Corporate/Jack's Mannequin (you can make comparisons between the two bands), The Hush Sound, Fall Out Boy and/or any other band you want to pick apart.

Pick and choose which bands you would like to discuss.

Which album is your favorite and why? How has the band's change from album to album affected you and/or your perception of the band (i.e. did such-and-such release their third album and it was awful so you don't listen to them anymore?)? I'm just curious as to what people look for when they pick up a band's second or third albums, what they're expecting and what they find that excites them for further releases or disappoints them. I'd prefer detailed answers rather than like, "Oh, this album sucked so I don't listen to them anymore but their debut album was SOO amazing."

I don't get a lot of comments nor do I make a lot of posts (at least not as long as this), so I'm hoping for some friendly debate and/or conversation regarding my obsession with music, haha. Feel free to recommend any bands too that you feel I might like. As you can probably tell, I love discovering new music and exposing other people to bands they might never have listened to otherwise.
