Day 8. 17:10
Milan is so much better than I had thought it may be. It is still very hot and I'm hoping that for some bizarre reason the weather will change and cool down soon. Despite the bad reviews on various website the hostel I'm staying at is nice, there are big lockers that can hold all my stuff and it's near the San Siro which is great as I got to go on a tour of it today. It's also near a bank, has a drinks machine and has a generally good atmosphere, which is nice. The toilets, however, are a joke. They are really short, they come up to about half-way up my shin and have no lids or seats. At least my thigh muscles will have had a work-out by the time I leave. I wish I had brought flip-flops as the showers aren't brilliant either. Actually, if I'm making a list of things I wish I had brought with me, it would include a better day-bag, as this one makes it hard to find things and is digging into my shoulders making them really sore. More socks would be useful as well.
The city is glitzy and huge and full of fashion concious people. Expensive shops are everywhere and the people who walk around the city look like supermodels. The metro is more extensive than in Rome but simple enough to use, as my hostel is quite far out from the city centre I have to use the metro (using two lines) to get near anything city-like. But the hostel is really close to a metro station so it is not a problem.
Last night was fun, I went out drinking at an outside bar within view of the San Siro with a guy in the same room as me, we drank and chatted till late then met up with various other people who were returning to the hostel late at night. Much drinking and chatting ensued, but I still haven't met anyone from England which is strange.
My knee is also much better. In Firenze I think I walked too much during my day-trip to Pisa and I hurt my left knee. It was painful to walk on and still hurt the next day when I arrived in Milan. It is feeling okay now though and I'm making sure I take time out every now and then to rest.
I checked train times today and it seems as though I won't be going to Venice as a 10 hour round trip does not seem worth it. It's a shame, but I'm sure I will be back to visit it. There is a 8pm journey on Friday to Barcelona which arrives at 9am and I'll be booking that later on today. Im only going to have a few days in Spain, fewer then I had planned but I'm loving Italy at the moment and can't leave yet.
I'm thinking ahead to Paris... day trips to Normandy and maybe Disneyland? Why not?
I'm losing all hope with the postcards. Just tell everyone who knows me that I'm having a blast (which I am), I wish they were here (which I don't), blah blah blah.
Ciao!
