Just seen the last Harry potter film. I have to admit I really enjoyed it - once I let go of the fact they weren't replicas of the books, I think all of the films were pretty enjoyable. I'm not going to post a detailed review, because you can find more eloquent, much better informed articles than anything I could cobble together on a bus between Wimbledon and tooting.
Instead, a couple of words about my memories of HP and what I think of the whole shebang.
I remember picking up the book philosopher's stone in my parent's downstairs toilet, in a university summer holiday - possibly 2000 or 2001, not long before the first film, because I think I went to see it (or at least one of the early HP films when I was working for my masters degree.
Overall, what I would say about the series is that if it had been published 10 years previously I would have been a MASSIVE fan. Fantasy? Loner wizard? Kinda bleak? Good story? Yes please. As it happens a bit late for me, but still. There's worse ways to get kids reading and using their imaginations.
Favourite film? No idea. Favourite part? The very last scene of the final book - not in a thank god it's all over way, but just in a nice conclusion way. JKR drawing a line in the sand.
Not much more to say - HP is a take-it-or-leave-it for me. If somebody said I could never read one of the books again, I wouldn't complain, but then... I did find myself trying to join Pottermore this week.
So - easy to let go of, but I think nice to have in hand, just in case.
