My new favorite music band is Death Cab. Just so you know. ^_^
Title: We Looked Like Giants
Pairing: Ichigo/Rukia
Rating: PG
Summary: "...and at the moment you two are like giants, fumbling to make contact, as the others slept inside."
Notes: I was listening to Death Cab, and I was like, these songs need a fic for them. They're just awesome like that. Or something. Yeah. Not really inspired, I had to make lines and lyrics and (non-existant) plot fit, so it's not too good. I'll try to do better next time making a songficcy like this.
God bless the daylight.
You don't know when this will stop. He fights and you instruct, power and experience working together for... something.
It's all routine. The air on the railroad is making the same sounds... It's the same day after day, with subtle touches and looks and foolish attempts to show you did not mean.
You enjoy it. For what else can you do? Sit back and be enchanted by the ride while it lasts, because it's not going to last forever, this is fact not fiction, the real world can't stay static.
He doesn't understand. He thinks he can continue to charge at Hollows and protect you and that the earth will stop spinning on its axle for the two of you; you two fit together perfectly, but so did Romeo and Juliet, and all they got was a meaningless movement, a moviescript ending.
He thinks he can continue to be in a not-relationship, where nothing is acknowledged and only slander and double-speak are spoken, where he'll break mountain passes and you'll skip your early classes, and it will be like there is nothing there at all.
But you can't continue to sit in silence, and although there's no blame for how our love slowly did fade there's no cure for this spreading infestation of loneliness either.
God damn the black night.
And as the summer's ending, you tell him that you're going back to Soul Society. He gives you a startled look, because you've broken one of the unspoken rules, of talking about where you actually hail from and must return to one day.
He sits down at the table and buries his head in his arms, and his bleach-colored hair starts trembling as his shoulders shake in unison, and it's twisting my stomach into knots. You touch his arm gently and he looks up, eyes swollen and red.
And finally, suddenly, he gives blatant proof, your lips touching mine, and at the moment you two are like giants, fumbling to make contact, as the others slept inside.
You push him away from you quietly, watching clear droplets on a murky bowed head, and you wish you could run back into his rejected embrace, think of something charming to say, of every love that could've been, but it wouldn't matter anyway, because it's over.
He stares at you wordlessly as the rain beat down on the hood, and it's too late, the fairy tale is finished, but he finally understands in his learned mastery at subtlety, and he gazes at you with darkened wounded eyes, says, "I should have given you a reason to stay." A plea for you to come home, but this isn't your home anymore, has long ceased to be.
You shrug; "I've packed a change of clothes and it's time to move on."
Hunh, that was kinda weird, actually. Stole lyrics from 6 Death Cab songs, We Looked Like Giants, Photobooth, A Lack of Color, Title and Registration, The Sound of Settling, and A Movie Script Ending.
Posted to the
Ichigo/Rukia Community as well. Come on. You know you love them. xD
