I signed up for the local Community Emergency Response Team, and finished my training last Saturday. It's moderately intensive: two Friday evenings and two Saturdays, with a lot of information and some practical work too.

If you're familiar with the Honorverse, you'll know that the author, David Weber, is not exactly the most liberal of individuals. Probably a bit to the left of Jerry Pournelle, I'd say, if that helps. I enjoy them, though, just as I enjoy Tom Clancy's novels
