Kai had given up huddling in corners - especially in the lounge; there had been disturbing goings on in there - and headed for the beach. The beach where nothing bad ever happened and it was sun and sand and ... yes, alright, he was kidding himself, but he was trying to pretend he didn't have something disgusting looking slithering behind him. And that he wasn't walking through a puddle of blood.

He sighed, whimpering almost, and kept walking.

Fenrir cocked his head curiously as he regarded the boy. He already scented of fear, and that simply stirred the wolf's desire to ravage and kill further.

His shoulders hunched as his body bent a little, hands briefly touching the sand before he righted himself. His wand was, for the moment, forgotten high in his sleeve ... though he might recall he had it later.

"You there," he called, his voice a barking growl as he moved closer. Sunken eyes gleamed dully as he looked forward to where this might go.

Kai jumped, certain the slithering thing behind him had caught up with him at last before he spotted Fenrir. Which ... well really, that wasn't much comfort. Sure, he looked human ... mostly. But friendly? No.

"Y-yeah?" he stammered, voice barely above a whisper.

He shoved his hand into his back pocket, checking for the knife he always kept there. He wasn't a good hand at it, but he felt better for having it all the same.

Fenrir grinned as he stalked a little closer to Kai. His nostrils flared a time or two, and he glanced back toward the cove.

But no. He was here. He was really here. He'd take advantage of that. Damion had said to have fun ... and Fenrir thought he would. "You mind tellin' me where I am?" he said in his best 'I'm a polite wizard' voice - though the grinning leer and gleaming eyes might belie his tone.

"Ah, yeah, that's always the question isn't it?" he joked, shifting uncomfortably. Something about the man before him just struck him as ... well, off, or something. Not right, anyways.

"DauphinMare?" he supplied finally, "Something about a bubble and a war and ... well, I still don't know if I believe half of it cause it still sounds like horse shit, but that's what they tell me. So, uh, you new or something?"

"New," he agreed. He cocked his head slightly. "What's your name, lad?" It was hard to pretend he was polite, when he kind of wanted to taste the boy's flesh, to drink his blood.

He brushed his claw-like nails down the front of his shirt, a faint grunt crossing his lips as he shifted his weight, focusing very intently on the boy.

Yeah, name. That made sense. That was something people asked. Normal people. Sure, he'd go with that.

"Kai," he replied, "Kai Brennan. Uh, and you would be?"

That sounded kind of formal, which was more on account of he was nervous than anything else. That, and something with tentacles was creeping up behind Fenrir and he couldn't figure out which made him more jumpy. Either way, he was lapsing into the default 'I'm gonna get beats if I don't shape up mode' he'd learned under Ming.

"Fenrir," he mumbled. "Fenrir Greyback." He glanced back over his shoulder, but saw nothing of interest ... so he moved toward the boy, another step or two closer.

He flicked his gaze over the beach, up toward the grass, but he didn't see anyone. Or scent anyone. So he grinned.

Still, he wasn't going to just attack him here, where anyone could see, if they had a mind too. Instead, he nodded back toward the cove. "Want t'see something neat?" he baited.

Kai was very much inclined to say he was already seeing neat things. He closed his eyes a moment so he wouldn't see them, then open them to regard Fenrir again.

"Uh, like what?" he asked, running his hand through his hair and shifting uncomfortably again, trying to convince himself that no, that was not a scarab beetle climbing up his leg. It was only half working.

The werewolf in human form grinned wickedly. "Dunno what it is exactly. Was hoping you could tell me," he murmured as he started to back away before he turned to retreat further down the beach. Slowly though, glancing back to the boy now and again to see if he was following.

If he wasn't ... well, Fenrir would go explore around a bit more.

He should, he reasoned. He should see what else the town had to offer before he was rushed home. Maybe he could find something soft and younger than the boy.

There was something regarding curiosity and a cat that nagged at the back of Kai's mind, but he shrugged and followed Fenrir anyways. Not that he thought there would be anything really interesting over there; most of those sorts of things were trundling along the beach behind him. He looked over his shoulder and shuddered, running a couple of steps to catch up.

"So Fenrir," he said conversationally after a second and third glance over his shoulders and accompanying winces, "What do you do then?"

Because everyone did something, really. Except ... well, he hadn't heard what that guy in the suit was good for. But he must've been good for something.

"What do I do?" he repeated, honestly baffled by the question. "What d'you mean, what do I do?" he echoed as he paused to turn to face Kai.

What did he do, really? He killed. Maimed, ravaged, devoured, raped, destroyed. He grinned, yellowed teeth bared with the lifting of his lips. "I do lots of things," he murmured, his voice a faint growl.

"Well, everyone has a skill they're here for right?" he continued, deciding conversation was a good distraction from that ... well, what was that exactly? He decided he didn't want to know. "Like, for instance, I'm a thief," he supplied, "That's what I do; I steal things."

Usually only to have them stolen from him, but that wasn't the point, really.

"Yeah?" He perked up a little at that. A thief, huh? "Sure you wound up on the right side then?" he inquired slyly. "Thieving doesn't sound very Orderly," he pointed out.

He didn't really want to chat, but what if he recruited someone? What if he stole someone from here to bring them there? He knew this place had stolen a few of theirs ...why not the other way?

He might get praised for bringing in an informant. He wasn't sure what sort of praise he'd get, but ...it was an idea worth investigating.

Kai shrugged.

"Guess not," he admitted, "I never thought about it. I mean, I just kind of took it for granted that I was meant to be here. I mean, this is where I ended up, right? I guess sometimes Order needs things stolen?"

Alright so that was a stretch, but still. He wondered if he'd even have been able to survive the other side if he'd been over there. He was barely adjusting here, and people were nice. From what he'd heard, that couldn't be said of the other side.

"You want to come see the other side? Maybe find you're a better fit over there?" His weight shifted a little, eager to see if this plan would play out. Either way, he was admitting which side he was from ... if the boy bolted, well then ... he'd have no choice but to chase him down and kill him. Or try to, anyway.

Maybe the boy had a surprise or two up his sleeve.
