Well that was ... interesting. She shivered as she stepped out of the portal, glancing around. She squinted against the glare as well, a smirk curving her lips. "Brighter over here. You think they're trying to tell us something?"

Not that she expected him to get that. Light side, lighter ... yes, all right, it was something of a stretch, anyway.

"Yeah, our sky is dirty," he muttered, "Oughta look into gettin' that fixed." He heaved a sigh, as if he was terribly hard done by. "So where d'you reckon we oughta start?"

He reckoned they ought to get a lay of the land first, but that weren't always the way of things, and aside from that he wasn't running this show, she was. He was just there to blow things up; he'd brought grenades.

"Do you think we should split up?" she inquired. "Cover more ground and look less suspicious?" She rolled her shoulders, kind of glad she didn't have to have any visible armaments - he was going to stick out like a sore thumb.

She stepped away from the portal - though not very far, and she gazed down the stretch of beach. Envy. Why didn't they have a beach?

"'S a thought," he agreed, "'Course, I ain't ever been an expert at blendin' in. Ain't paid t'blend."

He was paid to shoot and take care of complications. A hand patted his girls, Heather and Dara, one on each hip. Let it never be said that Jayne didn't come prepared.

"No," she said as she flicked her eyes over him. "I don't suppose you are ... paid to blend."

This would be so much easier if they knew what they were looking for. Piteraq inhaled slowly, and sighed. God, it even smelled nicer over here.

"Well, if we play off that we're new arrivals, the ..." she trailed off. Even if he did do that, she couldn't see him being exactly ... subtle about anything. He'd probably blurt out why they were here. "Nevermind," she said before she gestured to him, and started to walk out of the cove.

The question was ... where to, first?

Jayne spared the beach a oceanfront and grinned.

"Reckon it's on th' beach?" he asked, shooting her a significant glance, "I'd be willin' t'go check that out."

If by 'check that out' you meant 'laze around on the beach', then Jayne was your man.

She thought about that, parted her lips, and thought a little bit more. "Why don't you do that," she agreed.

People might eventually show up on the beach, after all, and he could talk to them while he was ... looking for seashells or something.

And it would give her some time to stealth around without a grenade-toting walking ad for anti-subtlety. "Just ... be careful, and try not to draw too much attention to yourself."

He gave her a mock salute and grinned.

"Will do," he replied, and wondered idly if he was like to find more treasure and the like somewhere other than the beach. But he'd said beach, so that was the direction he headed.

For now.

Piteraq watched him go before she turned to head up toward the town.

It wouldn't be hard to pretend to be new - for all that, she was new. A little smile tugged at her lips as she contemplated how best to go about this. Obviously, asking about it was right out ... but she could guide the conversation.

Jayne puttered over to the beach, tempted to kick off his boots entirely and just go splashing in the water like a little kid. Weren't like home in the least, just that was what you did on the beach. Or so he figured.

Wash had heard all the warnings about staying inside, sure. But he was also, perhaps falsely, under the impression there'd be an invasion alarm this time as well. Since he'd heard no alarm, he decided it was perfectly fine to be outside.

Wash Logic for the win.

Outside today involved the beach, and he grinned a little as he started toward it, half buttoned shirt fluttering as it caught the wind coming off the surf.

Upon approaching, he noticed a figure already on the beach. He squinted. The figure was familiar, and he laughed when he realized why. Well, didn't that just make everyone? "Jayne Cobb," he called toward the other man. "As I live and breathe, is that really you?"

Jayne looked up, and grimaced. Awkward.

"Uh hey," he muttered, a hand reaching up to unconsciously rub the back of his neck, "Guess it's me. Was I bein' looked for?"

Of all the folk to have run into him in this entire bubble, why someone he knew? He groaned inwardly, wondering how long he'd be able to keep up any kind of charade. They didn't, after all, pay him to think.

"No, Jayne. No one was looking for you," Wash called before he walked closer so they wouldn't have to lift their voices quite so much. "When did you get in? I've been a little ... you missed the fight," he finally said. "Couple days too late for that. Everyone else is here," he continued.

Then thought about that. "Everyone but Book and Inara, anyway," he amended. "I bet Mal will be thrilled to have you here," he continued on. "So how have you been? And what's the last thing you remember?"

Sure, all right, it was a lot of questions. He thought about warning Jayne about the invaders, but he figured he'd give him a minute.

Besides. Jayne had guns, Jayne didn't need a warning.

"Jus' got in," he replied. That was true enough, anyways. He blew out a breath, working through the rest of the questions. Or, really, those he remembered.

"Been fine, mostly," he continued, "Las' thing I remember..."

His brow furrowed, wondering how exactly that applied. Because technically, the last thing he remembered was walking up to this beach....

Wash grinned. "From home. From before you got pulled in. Zoe remembers me being dead. Was that before or after when you got yanked here?"

Standing on the sand, Wash grinned up to Jayne. It was interesting to see him here, but not a bad kind of interesting. More of an 'I wonder if Inara and Book are on their way' sort of interesting.

He'd been so wrapped up in what he was supposed to be doing he'd damn near forgotten Wash was supposed to be dead.

"After," he replied, bewildered, "How come you ain't dead?"

Subtle as a bullet to the brainpan, our Jayne.
