Eiji stared at his fingers for a moment, actuely aware of Renji's movement. He could feel the change in the air when Renji turned towards him. His action made it much easier for Eiji to kiss him now, if he decided to go through with it. Goosebumps covered his arms while he thought of this, of Renji's leg on his own, of Renji so close to him, of Renji's breath on his cheek, of Renji's mouth on his neck....

Eiji shook his head, clearing those images out. But the images wouldn't go. Eiji could feel his lips begin to tingle with anticipation. He was actually going to do this despite his brain telling him it was a Bad Idea, Eiji. Really.

Eiji looked up at Renji, who was looking at him curiously and patiently. Eiji smiled, thinking "Here goes nothing" before leaning forward, hand splayed on the floor for balance. "This, Renji," he said, tilting his mouth up to Renji's. This kiss was different than the previous two. This one was one Eiji had thought about. One he'd considered for hours. This one was planned and prepared for, and Eiji didn't waste what could be the last kiss he gave Renji. He closed his lips over Renji's, softly and firmly, while bringing up his other hand behind Renji's neck, fingers threading into his hair. He held the other boy there, tasting the toothpaste from earlier as he slowly pressed his tongue into Renji's mouth, which was just barely open, and hoped that this time, this time, Renji kissed him back.

Renji wondered what Eiji wanted to say as the other boy leaned forward, but then he stopped wondering because he couldn't, because all of a sudden it was about Eiji's lips, and his hand, and oh -- Eiji's tongue and no, all Renji could do was feel and what he felt was good, so good, and how did Eiji manage to feel this good?

And this time was nothing like the soft barely-there kiss that he received earlier. This was real, so real, and he could tell that Eiji knew exactly what he was doing - each little part. Eiji moved his lips against Renji's slowly and deliberately, as if daring Renji's mouth to kiss back, or perhaps daring him to just try and not kiss back. Renji couldn't decide which he was supposed to do. And when Eiji's tongue touched his lips, Renji wanted to kiss back and not kiss back all at the same time, and things like that don't quite work out, and Renji's hand fumbled around, trying to find something to hold onto. What he managed to do was bump Eiji's hand that was on the floor, though he didn't know that's what it was, but he wrapped his hand around Eiji's wrist anyway and held on tightly, needing something to ground him because Eiji still hadn't stopped kissing him and he didn't know what to do.

Eiji was starting to think that kissing Renji was as bad as his brain was telling him it would be. Renji still hadn't responded, not even when Eiji had slowly licked his tongue across Renji's lower lip. Of course, he hadn't backed away either so that was encouraging.

Renji's mouth felt even better than earlier. But this was probably because Eiji was really kissing Renji this time, and not being spontaneous and quick to get away with something before being stopped. His lips were soft and Eiji loved the way they felt pressed up against his.

The thing that surprised him though, was when he felt Renji begin to move. He panicked for a brief moment, thinking Renji was about to push him back. Instead, he felt a hand grab his wrist and hold, clinging as though he needed...something. Encouraged a little by this gesture, Eiji slid his other hand slightly forward, placing his thumb on Renji's cheek. He didn't break the kiss. Instead, he hoped a couple more moments of this would break the last of Renji's resistance, and he would finally start to kiss him back.

Eiji just kept going and Renji finally realised that what he wrapped his fingers around was Eiji's wrist and he was touching Eiji while Eiji was touching his face and Eiji's lips still moving against his slightly open mouth, and tongue still there - but even so, even so it wasn't enough contact.

But years and years of habit didn't just go away and Renji was still unsure about everything, because Eiji wanted non-serious, but non-serious often led to serious messes and maybe he and Eiji wouldn't. Maybe he and Eiji could pull off non-serious but something like that wasn't guaranteed, so Renji's data said one thing but he wanted another and what was he supposed to do? Oh, but then Eiji's tongue just barely brushed against his, and Renji had to make a choice because Eiji had laid it all out and could only wait.

It finally dawned on Renji that data isn't absolute, because he threw it away once for Sadaharu, so why couldn't he throw it away now? And when Eiji lightly stroked his cheek once with his thumb, Renji sighed silently into his mouth, because Eiji wanted to and he wanted to and they wanted to. Renji barely started to kiss back, his lips apply just the littlest of pressure back, but it was enough for Eiji to feel it and he could sense relief in Eiji just then and maybe himself too.

Eiji couldn't help touching Renji's face. He wanted to let him know, any way he could, without the complication of words and thoughts, that he really wanted this. Even though it might get a little complicated, he didn't think it had to. They could figure that out when they got to it, if they got to it. This could work out, right? Whatever happened, happened.

Eiji didn't want to think about just how much he was starting to like Renji, how much he just was realising this after seeing him again after weeks of being in America. It hadn't even crossed his mind before then, but oddly, he'd missed Renji while he was gone. He hadn't told anyone that. Instead, he ignored it, but it was beginning to be harder to do so since he was here, in Renji's room, trying everything he could to get Renji to just kiss him back. Why was he trying so hard? He hoped he'd find out and that it was worth it.

When Eiji felt the slightest change in the kiss, felt Renji sigh and just barely begin to move his mouth, it was almost like a balm, soothing and calming. His heart did something weird that made him sigh happily. Relaxing his mouth just a bit, he began to slow his kiss, to see if Renji would kiss him more. Before he did, though, he slid his tongue so very slowly across Renji's, as if to let him know he knew.

This is what Renji had been wanting, he realised, as Eiji's tongue slid over his, and had been wanting for a while but never wanted to admit it. The kiss Eiji gave him earlier was spontaneous and short-lived and Renji was able to resist that but not this, not a kiss like this that made his heart beat faster and his breath come more quickly. Because Eiji's mouth felt better than anything else he could think of and Renji didn't have that much willpower, mostly because he didn't have the will to want to say no.

He felt Eiji slow down a bit and his mind started saying 'no no no, don't stop, more' and his voice would have too except his mouth was trying to say it in its own way, Renji's head leaning forward to get closer to Eiji, to tell him not to stop, never to stop, because this felt too good to stop. So Renji squeezed Eiji's wrist a little tighter, and angled his head to kiss Eiji a little deeper, with a little more urgency, while his other hand came up and hovered over the nape of Eiji's neck briefly before burying its fingers in soft, messy hair.

Oh, Eiji thought. OH! There wasn't much more going through his mind when he felt Renji's grip tighten on his wrist. And then, at almost the same time, Renji's head tilted and he started to kiss Eiji back. Eiji's heart was pounding because this was even better than he imagined it would be. He almost felt his wrist and elbow give way, but then Renji's hand was in his hair and Eiji's elbow did buckle. He held on to Renji's neck until he could catch his balance.

Eiji gave in and let Renji control the kiss now, amazed that he was kissing him back and just how happy that made him.

There was a small voice in the back of Renji's head asking him what he was doing - do you have any idea? - and Renji was almost tempted to listen and stop and think about what was going on. He pulled away for a second, to catch his breath and he almost thought about it, but then he looked at Eiji's lips and Eiji's face and there was a small smile there and Renji could see how happy he was, and the only thing he wanted to do was to kiss him more.

So he gave Eiji small, light kisses, pulling back each time to see the smile on Eiji's face. What he liked most about Eiji being such a naturally happy person, he thought, was that his smile was addictive, and Renji wanted to see it as much as possible. If kissing him could keep that smile there, then Renji didn't want to disappoint.

Eiji's eyes were still closed when Renji pulled slightly away. He opened one eye to peek at what Renji was doing and saw Renji just staring at him with this indecipherable look on his face. He was smiling at Eiji who couldn't stop smiling. Especially when Renji started leaning in for the softest kisses, over and over, as though he wanted to see what kind of reaction Eiji would have to those.

"Renji..." Eiji said, beginning to lean over towards Renji to kiss him back. Eiji laughed, meeting Renji in the middle of their space on the floor. He could see Renji's cheeks were red and his eyes were open a little. He looked happy, like Eiji was. Eiji used a hand to still Renji and then leaned his forehead against Renji's, moving in slightly to touch their noses together.

"You kissed me..." Eiji smiled widely.

Renji's eyes flickered up as Eiji pulled away, in the middle of moving forward again when he felt a hand on his chest. He was confused for a moment, but only a moment, because Eiji was still there in front of him and smiling and Renji thought that yeah, this is good too.

"...I did," he said quietly, thumb unconsciously stroking at Eiji's wrist. "It was...a bit difficult not to when you...hmm, attacked me like that." Renji stayed resting against Eiji for a few moments before sighing, and then he sat back up and leaned against his bed, head sort of turned towards Eiji. His hand stayed on Eiji's wrist however, and he gave a small smile. "I don't know what you want, Eiji."

Eiji watched as Renji sat back, smiling at him still. He was so glad Renji held on to his wrist, the small gesture making him feel more secure in what just happened and, possibly, what could happen...what ifs...

He smiled back at Renji before moving slowly to sit next to him against the bed. Eiji hoped Renji wouldn't let go of his wrist because he really liked that, if he were being honest. And he really was. He could feel Renji's hand slipping away so he quickly twisted his hand to grab Renji's, and he was holding Renji's hand in his. He thought he felt a blush creep on his cheeks.

Eiji sighed a little before beginning to speak. "Renji, I'm not even sure what I want," he said, smile still on his face. "I don't know what you want either. I just know that...I really like being around you. I really like having you as a friend." Eiji looked at Renji again. "I don't know what to say...I...I liked kissing you." Eiji blushed more.

"And I didn't attack you!" he finished, frowning fakely and trying to look insulted. He doubted it worked.

Renji was silent for a while, sitting there with his hand in Eiji's grasp (warm and comforting), thinking about what Eiji had just said to him. Somewhere along the line, they had shifted quietly from 'honestly just friends' to 'almost more-than-friends' and neither of them had noticed at all. And now suddenly, they were kissing on the floor of Renji's room and Renji liked it.

Looking over at Eiji, he could see the blush still visible on the other boy's cheeks and a sulky frown on his face. "No, I suppose you didn't, since I hardly made a move to fend you off. It only counts as attacking when the other person doesn't want it, right?" Renji squeezed Eiji's hand and waited for him to realize what he had just admitted.

It took Eiji a few minutes before he realised just what Renji said. Then, he smiled almost smugly, turning towards him. "You're right." Eiji laughed. "So you did want a kiss, didn't you?" Eiji said. Eiji moved his thumb on Renji's hand, squeezing it back.

He didn't know what to do now. His heart was beating oddly still, fast and strong. All of this was just happening and he felt strangly content about whatever this was. He was sitting with Renji, holding his hand, and they'd both basically just admitted they liked one another. He looked up at Renji and the other boy was just staring at him with a small smile on his face. Eiji matched it, before leaning over to kiss Renji on the side of his mouth, slowly.

He pulled back just a bit so he could speak.

"Um, so what do we do now, Renji?"

Renji wasn't sure if Eiji meant what to do about their new situation (Relationship? Could they call it that?) or what they were to do right now. In all honesty, Renji didn't really have an answer for the first one, but he certainly had an answer for the second.

"I very much wanted the first kiss, and I wouldn't exactly be opposed to getting another one - if that's okay with you," Renji said, tilting his head and pausing for a moment before placing his lips over Eiji's, soft and hesitant because he didn't know what he was doing, but he still wanted it and none of it felt wrong, so it was okay, right? He waited for Eiji to kiss back, to tell him it was.

Eiji closed his eyes when Renji's mouth covered his. Kissing seemed easiest to do right now so he didn't have to think about just why his heart was still beating like it was. He couldn't stop smiling and feeling irrationally pleased about the whole circumstance, and he didn't want to consider what that could mean. Its just a kiss, he kept thinking. That's all. Don't make this complicated. Just kisses.

"Of course its okay," he said, pulling back for a moment. "I said I like kissing you. Maybe you missed it." Eiji giggled softly before leaning into the kiss, almost making Renji lose his balance.

Renji brought his hand up to Eiji's neck, tugging him closer to get more of the lips that were so soft, and responded so well to every touch given to them. Eiji made a soft noise and Renji laughed quietly into his mouth before kissing him deeper, tongue slipping out to lick at Eiji's lips.

The movie was almost over, but Renji didn't notice, too enthralled in kissing Eiji and 'so soft' or 'something like this shouldn't feel this good'. But it did and Renji wanted more and more. He shifted so he was facing Eiji directly, lips never really leaving Eiji's mouth, and oh, he could kiss Eiji much better now.
