[Luke's built something which is sitting on a workbench now. It's about the size of his two hands together and messy with wires and cables and circuitry and big exposed bolts; he hasn't put it in any kind of casing yet. The machine thing might be recognizable to folks from the right time stream as a kind of droid caller, which does not exist in ( Read more... )

Dude, you don't want to mess with time. Trust me.

Yeah, but if I didn't make any more and didn't let anyone see this one...

[ The Starkpad is the bomb, how dare you. ]

Oh dear lord, you've murdered it.

[Luke covers the caller defensively with a hand.]

What?

Did you, at least, show it some mercy?

Mercy? I don't know what you're talking about!

What is that, Luke?

[His gaze keeps flitting from Luke, to the the droid caller, to the movement of the kits.]

And where do you get that hover thing?

It's a droid caller. ...A really makeshift one, but they haven't invented triple-phased transmitters yet.

[He turns a dial on the controller, flips something, and the remote comes back into view promptly, hovering higher like a weird robotic balloon. One of the kits scampers to sit under it, staring intently at the string.]

I found it in the scraps bin at a weapons store. It's missing the stun blast things...

Whoa. So, you can use it to call droids? Any droids- or just your own? [Because that would be a security risk, if it called any droids.]

You had to rig your own transmitters, then? I see what you mean by breaking time. [He laughs.]

Just our being here probably disrupts time, somehow.

Nnnooo... [He draws the word out.] Well, sort of. It's kind of complicated. You know restraining bolts?

Probably, but couple weeks back the Doctor was big about not inventing things for mass production early.

[There's a moment of silence, and then a shrug and the equivalent of an 'I don't know'. Time shenanigans are not really his specialty.]

Hi Chewie.

[Sigh] I guess it wouldn't be ethical. [Luke makes a face.]

[Chewie declines to comment on the 'ethical' part of the comment - he's not really too concerned about ethics most days, what with the smuggling and all - but after a moment of pause he offers that he's not really sure how it might effect the timeline, which is... close enough?]

But if I never let anyone get a good look, and just make the one...

The - it didn't go through, did it? Darn.

This. [He gestures at the droid caller] I went and made something that hasn't been invented in this time yet.

Yeah, out of different things. There's part of a personal energy shield in here... The things I'd have used to make one back home haven't been invented yet, either.
