Have a few full-time applications in around the Tulsa metro area. Haven't heard back on any, but a couple of the places I've applied are still taking applications for another week or so. As always, fingers and toes are crossed.
Picked up an award this weekend from the statewide SPJ chapter for a feature piece I wrote in Bristow about a 12-year-old bull riding champ. While I am happy to get some kind of professional recognition, was hoping I'd either pick up more than one award and/or that one of my pieces from the Tulsa World would be an honoree, primarily because either would look better on my resume. But since I was the only SPJ winner in the family this year, I'll graciously accept it and keep reminding myself that the Bristow paper was in the bigger newspaper categories. (For those of you playing the home game, newspapers were in two categories based on circulation size: less than 25,000 and more than 25,000. The more than category had the state's largest 10 or papers, while everyone else was in the other division. Publication frequency -- daily vs. weekly -- was not taken into consideration.)
My first 5k is Friday night. Depending on how it goes (and a potential assignment the same day), I might do another one next Saturday. Did a mock 5k Saturday as a training session and did alright. There's definite room for improvement on my time, but considering I hung back to make sure Jake did OK, I'll take it. Jake recently injured his knee and Saturday's mock 5k was the first time he did any kind of lower body exercise since then.
Sounds like the offspring is awake. To be continued. Eventually.
