Okay, well, there was no second Saturday party at Kate's, but it was still an interesting weekend. I've been catching up on a lot of movies, mainly to see how good or bad they are. I'll put out a list eventually, depending on how embarrassed I am to admit A) what movies I was interested in seeing, and B) what movies I would admit to liking.
The same weekend, I received a phone call about filling a small gap in November's "Kiss Me Kate" with LCP. With auditions and casting over, they still had yet to find someone for a two-scene (singing!) role in Act Two. I agreed to it, not only for a chance to duet with a friend (my Belle from "Beauty and the Beast"), but also because the show has connections to high school (my classmates put it on a year after I graduated), college (my classmates and I sang a song from it for a revue show), and Shakespeare (whose material I've felt distanced from for over ten years). So in addition to tying up those loose ends, it's another show with good people, a return to the LCP stage, and yet another unique character.
So, with "Evita", "Pirates in Pink Pants", and "Dead Air" already on the plate, is "Kiss Me Kate" a smooch towards overkill? Since there are no schedule conflicts (as "Kate" will not truly need me for rehearsals until after "Evita" is done), I will say that it's not, for now. Here's an idea of what my theater performance schedule looks like, and a handy reference that I will link you to from now on, so as not to risk over-plugging myself. (I probably do as it is, but doing shows is the source of most of my good news, so it makes sense that I've mentioned it so much.)
EVITA
-October 3,4,9,10,11 (7:30pm) and 5 (2pm), Clemens Center, Elmira
PIRATES OF PINK PANTS
-October 18, Corning Country Club (private company function)
DEAD AIR (first two shows)
-Oct 24 (with David) and Nov 7 (without David) at 7pm, Sorge's, Corning
ZOMBIE WALK (ad-libbed Halloween walking tour)
-October 25, Clute Park, Watkins Glen
KISS ME KATE
-November 7,8(7pm), 9 (2:30pm), Watkins Glen High School auditorium
DEAD AIR (last three shows)
-November 14 (my 32nd birthday!),21,28 (7pm), Sorge's Restaurant, Corning
My only plan after that is to join the cast for LCP's one-act "Scrooge/A Christmas Carol" performance during Watkins Glen's annual holiday festival, and then I'm done for the year, with no promises about what I'll do in 2009, aside from writing new dinner theater ("Scary, Married, and Murdered" or "One Killer Prom") and children's plays ("The Other Little Mermaid"). No promises, though, but plenty of surprises, if I can help it.
