I'm currently in the middle of my Holiday of awesomeness. So far we have spent 9 nights in The Sunshine Coast where our accomadation was a let down. They had three showers, two of which were being renovated (one of those did get finished half way through the week) the third one was seriously a dribble, we would have had better pressure standing in the rain. They stuffed up our booking and gave us a double instead of a twin which meant we had to share a bed, nothing majorly wrong with that, but it meant I was sleeping tense and my friend was a bit of a bed hog. We also seemed to be be stuffed in the back corner which was nice and quiet but we were by on of the exits to the pool area which meant when people didnt shut the gate properly we were trapped in our room (I'm sure thats and oc health & safety issue), we did have to hip and shoulder our way out of the room on multiple occasions. Our room did have a TV which was great since there was no night life so we often retired to our room after getting home from dinner or sat in bed eating take away.
In Sunny Coast we went to Under Water World, where we did the close encounters pack. That involved the seal encounter, otter encounter, behind the scenes tour, one days entry and a photo of each encounter. The Otters would have to be my favorite. Long story short is I volunteer at Adelaide Zoo and back when I started about 9-10 years ago there were two otters called Kaos & Mayhem which had been raised in the childrens zoo. I got to do some work with them but not much before they were shipped off to a queensland theme park. Yes two of the three otters in the encounter were Kaos and Mayhem. So I was stoaked to see them again and to see they are doing really well and are much better behaved (and fatter).
We went to Australia Zoo where we actually got to feed Elephants. I think it was a nice Zoo but mostly designed for international tourists and Children. We also went on a Whale watching tour where an whale actually decided to come up to the boat (we saw its eye, it was that close). got some great photos. I did get a little sea sick but it wasnt too bad. And we also went on a bus tour of the glasshouse mountains, we went to Noosa (and got drenched) and Bli Bli (where they have the Sunshine Caslte) and we went fishing (butthe fish were smarter then we were and just tended to steal our bait).
Oh and on the first day we arrived we wne to see Harry Potter TDH Pt2. AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ... yes I cried, no I am not ashamed to admit it! and Yes I want to see it at the movies again at least once more. I'm also kind of sad because I started HP when I was 11, I am now 22 thats half my life I have relied on HP and now I have no more waiting the books and movies will all be at my finger tips. I was a Harry Potter fan before it was all "OMG HARRY POTTER" ... me and my cousin used to argue over how to pronounce Hermione (the only arguement I have ever won against him) ... any way I diverge.
I am now in Cairns we have been here one night so far (two once I post this and go to sleep). Today we went up to Kuranda to got to the Butterfly sanctuary, the koala park and Bird World. The butterfly sanctuary was beautiful, best of the three. Bird world would have been good if they had better tamed their birds ... I am covered in bite marks/bruises from a Blue & Gold Macaw who decided my ear and hands was a chew toy. My hands are fine and he didnt break the skin at all but my ear still hurts and is a little inflamed (its still emitting heat). As for the Koala Park it was a bit plan ... def designed for the tourists!
Tomorrow we got on a bus tour/scenic tour through the rainforest and hills also spending time in Kuranda but we will also be doing a rainforest walk, and a few things like that. Thats part of a three day tour where we go to the reff, the rainforest and Atherton, which also comes with a free pass into the Cairns Dome which seems to be another "aussie" zoo. Then on friday we go horse riding for FIVE hours!!! withlunch in the middle. Thats through rainforest as well. then we recover saturday to fly home on sunday.
Big changes await me when I get home. I have decided not to do a PhD, which means moving back in with my mum and sister. But i will have plenty of time to write and draw and volunteer while working out what to do with myself in the next phase of my life. I am going to do NanoWriMo this year and give it a decent shot. I am going to start volunteering properly again at the SA museum, the Adelaide Zoo and at a youth service, all three have recieved less attention over the past year then they deserve. And I am going to start cooking properly and working on my self image ect. I figure cooking is the least I can do for my mum & sis as they work full time.
Any way bed for me big week a head.
