vassar public post - number one

Jul 06, 2004 01:26

in the next few weeks i will have several [public] posts related to vassar. classes, orientation, things to bring, roommates, questions, etc etc etc. so i'm sorry to the people who read this who have nothing to do with that school and could care less. you'll just have to deal.

topic #1: Before School Conference [BSC]

so i saw this and was immediately excited... and that was just as soon followed by extreme anxiety. i absolutely love and look foward to meeting new people, but social anxiety makes it so hard on my nervous system. i was so afraid there wasn't going to be a choice i really liked.. and, well, there really isn't.

i'm not an outdoors person at all so that crosses out at least half of the choices. Although, the camping and tubing ones did sound fun. And I wouldn't mind doing them if i already knew people and was totally prepared with what to bring.

the Drama one sounds like the obvious choice, bbuttt i really don't want the first people i meet before school to all be drama kids. too much loudness and hyperness and outgoingness [all of which i am, but not in "competition" with others]. although, Bri is doing this one, so i'd have a friend in it already. and he's doing a good job of convincing me.

i'd love to do the cooking one, but i can't cook AT ALL. no experience. except for like, tuna fish and ramen noodles. i already live like i'm on a college diet... eating at school is going to be a breeze for me. i'd do the Miscellany News one but it sounds kind of boring and i don't want to do work before i absolutely have to. Same goes with the Sustainability one- sounds awesome, but not as the first thing i really do on campus.

So, basically, i'm most likely going to to the Vassar Experience BSC. because, well i love vassar, and there's nothing you really have to be good at for that one. and scavenger hunt.....can we say, awesome? plus, i want the inside scoop. and i think it will help to ease my anxiety about getting around campus and knowing where everything is. only thing not too appealing is the ghostly/scary stuff, but i'll deal. yeah, that program is definitely the right one for me, walking and talking and chilling is my thing. it's not boring, but not too much effort.

my dad told me i should request a shopping one. instead of getting offended, i really do think that would be kickass. i don't even like to shop that much... it's just easy, i'm good at it, and it usually involves taking a break to eat. what's wrong with that?

basically, i'm just incredibly nervous for the whole orientation week. i don't know why.. i've been going to camps and programs every summer since i've been 2 and i've always made plenty of friends without much trouble. ugghh we'll see.

what is everyone else's thoughts? leave comments. especially from those who have already gone through it [which i think is two of you...].
