Or rather, a list of one single book at first, a book you should all pick up and read (and if you have to go to the university library of your city to borrow it!):
VERNE, Jules: Paris au XXème siècle. Paris, Hachette 1994.
It was written in 1863 about a young boy in Paris, 1960. It wasn't published before 1994 since Verne's editor believed it to be too pessimistic and therefore a possible hindrance to Verne's reputation.
Seen from today's perspective, it is an incredibly interesting and sometimes even bone-chilling reading experience. However, now that three years have passed since I wrote a paper about it, I must agree that during Verne's age, people might have been either frightened by it or would have laughed at it.
So far, I don't think it has been translated, but if you know French, do try to obtain a copy (it's only about 150 pages)!
As it is so thin, I am not going to say much about the contents. It is a dystopia, and therefore not a happy read; I hope those of you who do give it a try find it enjoyable, nonetheless.
