Raaaaaant!
Okay, I know I haven't posted in a long time, but I feel the need to rant. And then find the next bottle of wine. Unfortunately it's not even four o'clock.
I just spend an hour helping a friend at work, who had problems with a computer program. I think I've ranted about this particular program before. You load external files into this program that contain crystal structures that come from a big old crystal structure database. Of course the database and the program use widely different formats that aren't compatible, no ma'am. So you have to use two other programs in between to convert the original database file until you it begs for mercy and becomes compatible with the program you wanted to use in the first place. That are four programs used, but you haven't done done any of your actual work yet. Fantastic.
The whole process works mostly fine, but sometimes in between all that converting of files something goes wrong and the program decides to randomly insert numbers in strange places. Apparently work would be just too boring if everything worked for once. And let me tell you, it really is fun to figure out just what went wrong where for no apparent reason at all.
The only reason I haven't actually started drinking yet is that we managed to figure it out after all. So now I can continue to wrestle with Latex to typeset the article I'm writing. The only thing that's saving me so far it that I'm not a complete n00b, because I used it before. And that's all I'll say about this topic, because the rant about Latex would fill pages upon pages. *grrrrrr*
