Most expensive awesome day ever

Sep 14, 2006 00:16

Today was a day that started out okay, went kinda shitty, picked up a bit, went super shitty but ended out to be perhaps one of the best days (or at least 6 hours) of my life.

Work was boring all morning, nothing too exciting (okay part).

Had a problem with a test case that ate up my entire afternoon (kinda shitty part).

Came home and then went straight over to Karen's to hang for a bit before we went over to her parent's place for dinner since several of her relatives are up for a golf tournament tomorrow (day picking up part).

On the way there, I pulled a massively bone headed stunt and ran into the back of a minivan. Thankfully I was only going about 20 km/h and nobody was hurt. My car came out unscathed (well, my license plate is a little twisted on the front - yay for plastic Saturns) but I destroyed the minivan's back bumper. I felt unbelievably stupid for doing that and I went out and exchanged information with the guy I hit. He was a very nice guy and his birthday is tomorrow (he told me this while I was writing out my info because he had just had to put a new license sticker on his back plate earlier in the day). So this is going to cost me a pretty penny which is going to eat up any spare money I had (can you tell this is the super shitty part?).

In the end, its only money, nobody was hurt and that's all that really matters. Needless to say I was bummed out as we continued on to Karen's house (with a slight detour towards Montreal - think I was a little distracted still) but Karen being the awesome person that she is kept my spirits up to her house. I got there, met more of her family and had an excellent dinner. Karen's family is really fun and easy going and reminds me of some of my family which helped pick up my spirits. We went back to Karen's place and hung out for a couple of hours and had perhaps the most amazing talk I've ever had with anyone. We openly and honestly talked about alot of things on a wide range of subjects (and I ain't tellin ya what subjects so there, NYA!). This would be the totally awesome part of my day by the way.

Driving back from Karen's place I was thinking if it was worth it. I'm sure I could have begged off the trip to her parent's place (I skipped my weekly floor hockey to do this). I probably wouldn't have hit anybody tonight and saved myself alot of money. But meeting Karen's awesome family and just hanging with Karen and having that talk really does make it worth it. Cause hey, in the end its only money and having alot of money but missing out on amazing experiences like this seems like a poor trade off to me.

On another note, I can hear you all saying "What the hell? Ian posted again! And its like 13 billion times longer than anything he has ever posted!". And you're right. So let's add some nice fluff to this post.

Saw The Protector last night with Karen and some friends from work. That movie had some amazing stunts and fight scenes but the plot was incredibly horrible and character development was non-existant. I didn't know one of the main characters names untill the last 15 minutes of the movie. Or that the woman he talked to in the first act was actually his sister and not his girlfriend. Or that elephant bones will magically tie themselves to your arms when fighting a man about 14" taller and 150 lbs heavier than you.
