Lump on hand

OMG, I just got quite a scare.  My husband noticed a very hard lump on the back of my hand near my wrist.  When palpated, it is a bit painful.  It is more pronounced when I flex my wrist.  I'm surprised I hadn't noticed it before.  It feels like it's a growth on the bone.  Of course everybody associates growths with cancer.  I started worrying a

My mom used to get those on her hands, she had to get them surgically removed. Course, another time my cat had a lump on his chin, which I started wigging out thinking it was cancer, but nope, it was an abscess, which is treatable in the vet's office with draining and antibiotics (and indignant cat rage.)
