Urgh... I remember morphine: monged-out and unable to crap without the aid of a corkscrew - 'tis a good thing you mostly don't need it.

Actually: good thing about that effect. I hate hospital toilets more than I hate hospital food (I used to have food smuggled in). So not being able to crap throughout my stay was painful, but at least allow me to suffer in the comfort of my own toilet.

Having said that, if you've had blunt dissection close your bowel, the last thing you need is to have to strain

Maybe TMI, but very, *very* good point - actually, I've been deliberately choosing curries and suchlike for lunch, to make the whole experience as gentle as possible ;)
