At present, I'm trying to find as many ways as possible to take Oxfordshire PCT to task over its blanket ban on surgery relating to gender dysphoria. For one thing, I've just had a petition approved on the Number 10 site:

Hi Stephanie,

thank you so much - I'd never expected this petition to be anywhere near as popular as it has been, and it's the tireless efforts of kind people such as yourself that have made it so successful. Thank you!

Best wishes,

Sally :)

Hi Sally,

You are most welcome, WHEN you are successfull, the next target should be NHS Wales (formerly Health Commission Wales), no treatment for TS since late 2004, not even psychiatric assessment or hormones, its cruel. You (and Karen in Wales) are doing a great job in making folks aware of what is wrong with NHS healthcare for transsexuals.

We do think we are special, and want special treatment, we just want equal treatment, ultimately an end to this ludicrous postcode lottery in healthcare.

Hi Stephanie,

you'll be pleased to hear that there's good news from Wales - after an intensive stakeholder campaign, with valuable support from the Gender Trust, Wales has revised its policy, and apparently started funding again from December 2008. It's certainly helped to fuel my belief that, with the right support, we can bring change to the last of the existing problem PCTs.

Wow, thats great news. I have e-mailed them about their policy, but no response, I'll tell Karen in case she does not know. One girl went on hunger strike, and got committed under the mental health act, a few committed suicide as well in the last last 4 years in the principality, all because of pure ignorance ( ... )
