Yep! Basically. Some of the details of stuff catch people up, but they're...mostly not applicable. It's easy enough to ignore things at first and then just let people explain the setting through their characters in an intro post, haha.

Well, I mostly account for the historical.....oddities in any fiction, but especially Japanese media, that they probably don't have as full of an understanding of the texts as we do. Like, Gilgamesh is standard, higher-level reading in the Western world, but in the Eastern world, they're reading Eastern texts to replace that. Conversely, our "exotic" is generally those basic texts, and vice versa. It's not that he doesn't know the legend, but at the same time, the way he skims over details that don't affect the story at all make me assume that he probably hasn't read the legend in full. Gilgamesh is easier to point this out with because his Epic is pretty short (comparatively). Saber is pretty good, yet she has a really really large amount of Epic material to cover, whereas Gilgamesh only has one. So, laziness. Also, Nasu.

But even further, there's also the idea that Enkidu simply isn't important to the events of Fate/Stay Night. He gives background to Gilgamesh, but it doesn't alter the story either way, so there's not much of a need to put it in. Though after I did read the text, it struck me as odd how Nasu did personify Gilgamesh largely as the character he was at the beginning of the story, rather than at its end where he's much more humble and less of an ass. My theory for that part is that Nasu had his idea of wanting an antagonist for Saber that preyed upon her weaknesses---which includes her gender. Gilgamesh is an arrogant and womanizing figure at the beginning of his story, but by the end? Not so much. I believe it's even implied that after his quest for immortality, he goes to being faithful to his wife and family.

...
So can you tell I used to play Gilgamesh? ahahaha
It's been a long time since I've talked about him!

I know you play him. :| gb2_kitchen

...IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK DX I JUST. UM. UH.

okay fine I am kind of a creeper sob and. Can we just skim over this now. ;;

Yeah I agree, and Zero kind of confirmed that he's post-epic. So I'm just guessing that something snapped on the way? Unless you're telling me the Throne of Heroes considered pre-Enkidu Gil's soul to be more ~*~pristine~*~ than post-Enkidu Gil and kept that one instead -

Which just absolutely makes no sense. B| I even have some icons keyworded after the more humble parts of the Epic. "Cherish the child that holds your hand, and love the wife with your embrace, for that as well, is the lot of man" - and of course, "true immortality is attained by the legends that dead heroes leave behind."

But you already know this, Nasu just seemed to completely skip over these parts. :|a AH WELL. Which I think is where we come to a split-way;

Fate/Stay Night Gilgamesh: Irredeemable Bastard, yes or no?

And then you can actually play him a thousand and one ways while borrowing from both Nasu's dickhead asshole AND the Epic's wiseguy who knows what he's talking about and would actually be helpful in a normal conversation. Without being IC OR OOC because the TWO CANON SOURCES YOU HAVE OF HIM CONFLICT WITH EACH OTHER.

ihu sometimes nasu. /cries.

Does he even HAVE a wife? :|a

Fffffff I think we're the only chicks who really took a crack at him? H5! o/ See this is the kind of "talking with someone who plays the same character" that I would absolutely LOVE, if my tl;dr wasn't already indication, XD;;

That journal is still one of my favorite names. But I don't play him anymore! Rider replaced him, haha.

Sure thing! I don't mean to pressure you!

It's a hard balance to make, because Fate presents him as an Irredeemable Bastard, but his source says otherwise. He still wasn't exactly...nice...but he wasn't going to, say, threaten to rape Saber, or anything like that. His Noble Phantasm that is just a show of arrogant wealth is spot on regardless, but his character should be more sociable and generally king like. (Which, as a note, I think you see the most in Rider, Saber, and Gilgamesh's feast of kings, haha. He's very civil until the end where he's hot for Saber)

Possibly several, haha. But since he was a king, he would certainly have to for the sake of royal lineage, even if it was in its infancy in Gilgamesh's time. And the bit you quoted about cherishing the child and loving a wife implies that he does, and has a child. Like for example, Alexander was pretty vocal (as many Greeks were) about not exactly liking women. But he had two or three wives, and several children. It's part of the royal mindset that you must have a wife and you must have children, because otherwise, your country will certainly fall.

HAHA MAYBE? It's fun to bounce ideas off of people that are just as familiar with the canon source as you are, provided that neither party is being...judgmental, haha. That part is where it gets to be a problem.

It is. It is. It's an awesome name and you should FEEL awesome. More power to you for picking up Rider cause I swear my relationship with my Gil muse is pretty much identical to Waver with Rider. I don't think I'll ever have what it takes to take a crack at good old Rider, fff.

yeaaaaaaaah. |D;;;

No you have to at least a bit. I know how lazy of an idiot I can be sometimes, often. ~_~; derp.

...You do. I absolutely. LOVE. That snippet where he and Rider are like. "Yeah. 8|b" while Saber just gaped in the background ARE THEY FRIENDS OR FOES @A@;. And I look SO MUCH FORWARD TO HIS ACTUAL FIGHT WITH RIDER. ;A; "Virgin lying on a bed with flowers being scattered on it" o gil u so smooth /facepalm

Oh yeah, that, I mean certainly. The guy was uber promiscuous before Enkidu came along too - I just don't think any of them were notable enough to be recorded? It's like even if they're settled, you may as well consider them to NOT have done so. You sure don't really hear about it, but yeah, I agree on that. They pretty much had to.

I'd like to think that I keep an open mind to everything, |D; But yes. This bit of geeking out make me happy, haha. Thanks. XD;
