First of all happy holidays to anyone who celebrate anything during this season. Because as someone who just celebrated her first Christmas this year, "merry Christmas" still has an awkward ring, OTL.
Second... I think I mentioned this several times to various people, but I've been wanting to get a new computer for a while now. So after looking it up with some friends, they got me parts on newegg under 1k for a really spiffy new computer. All cool, right? So according to the trackings that I keep, the first order was made in September 22 for like... All the parts.
It arrived soon enough and took my friends a while to come over again to put it together for me - they live pretty far. Except when they DID put it together, it won't turn on.
Uh-oh, Dead On Arrival. So my friends figured that it was probably the power supply - it happens. So... A week later, just as when it was close for my warranty of one month with NewEgg was going to expire, I sent the power supply back (it was 50$). I actually originally asked for a replacement, but they game me a complete return. Taxes and shipping included! Sweet, except it took me 17$ to ship it anyhow.
Then my friend linked me up to a new power supply. It was... 80$. Well fine, I buy it. It arrives, they come over again, put it together and -
The damn thing still won't turn on. It was well into November iirc. So what's the problem? IDK. Seems just like I got EXTREMELY unlucky with the power supplies. I mean, two Dead On Arrivals? Especially when my friend did his best to link me to companies he KNOWS usually don't do stuff like that?
Well it was either the power supply, the motherboard, or the CPU. And that's... kind of hard to tell. But in the end there's no way for them to tell so ultimately I had another friend who has a car help me bring the tower to an actual computer store.
The result came 2 weeks ago - the Motherboard was the problem. It was.. dead on arrival. My warranty with NewEgg expired long ago so I tried seeking the company out - except no calls of mine are getting through, and even when I submitted an e-assistance form, I've yet to get an answer from them.
I... figure that they're all on their holiday vacation. Might be better if I try again after January 4th? At that point most people should have started normal work again.
...And getting the PROBLEM identified by the professionals at the store costed me an extra 40$. /wince. I'm just so incredibly unlucky with this computer - it's like karma took everything bad I did and rained it down on me trying to get a new working computer, sob. So... more waiting is now.
What does that mean?
I have no fitting computer to even use PAINT on. Ever since I moved out I've been mooching off of my friend's old laptop that she rarely uses anymore, but the thing has... no power pack. It HAS to be plugged into a power outlet with a cord at ALL times when it's being used. But that's not the bigger issue - it has USB outlets, but no outlets for the old mouse with the green round outlets. Which is the one I have. My other roomies all have wireless mouse, which I find VERY awkward to work with, and any usb-port mouse's wires have been chewed through long ago by the cats.
So tl;dr... I'm sorry for all of you who requested MSPaint chibis. I'll do them! I'll get them done I swear, but... I have to wait more until my computer is completely put together. Which may... take some time yet, le sigh.

IN OTHER NEWS, THE RAFFLE! ...Only three people entered. So I'm saying 'eff this' and you're all getting a copy of Dragon Age PC. I just need to physically get the copies once work starts again in January and then take care of the shipping/keep them with me until I meet you face-to-face /stares at delusioland and rglaive. So my apologies again for the wait, but know that you're definitely getting the game.
Christmas was fun. Roomie made... A LOT of food. And homg I love mashed potatoes because as an asian I NEVER get to eat those in my old place. *A* Got all my shopping done on Amazon on the Sunday before and gave everyone DS games, XD; Also got myself Star Ocean 4 bitches /o/ Gonna start playing that one soon. <3 Jen got me... Bathtubs products. Which confuse me greatly because I never, EVER take baths. Shower all the way. ...I guess I can use it, but I confess that the 'chocolate' essence theme... puts me off. Fruits? Sure. Flowers? Sure. Herbs? Sure. Cocoa candy chocolate? ........... It's the last scent I'd pick to wash myself with. OTL; Still, I'm grateful. The put-together christmas tree was pretty amazing and it was the first time living in a house with a tree with a huge pile of presents underneath, even if they don't really concern me.
EDIT: a-aajhfjkadfhjk another friend just gave me 4th Edition D&D Player's Hanbook 1 and 2. eeeeeeeep. /happy forever. /skips off flailing
