1. In fact met Gentleman Caller's mother last evening after dinner, because we were in her neighborhood and she wanted to finalize some plans w/r/t next weekend. He told me at dinner that she'd said "Well why don't you just bring her by the house, then", to give me the chance to veto on the basis of a near-total lack of advance notice, but I actually voted that meeting her for the first time on half an hour's heads up was preferable to meeting her for the first time at Christmas dinner, so off we went. Painless, of course, except that I am more allergic to her cats than I've been to any two cats I can remember in a long time. (I never pet cats. But they do live in their homes, don't they. The degree of allergy I experience seems to have little or nothing to do with the style of furnishing - hardwood vs. carpet/upholstery, etc. - or the diligence of the housekeeping, and everything to do with the individual cat. Go figure. I went home and replenished the supply of antihistamines in my pillbox.)
2. I had intended to go get my parents the 2012 wall calendar they wanted, which I knew (or suspected, based on having done so last year) I could get at the specialty calendar shop at Tysons. But I found it online, so now I don't have to go - don't have to run the risk that the shop won't have the calendar or won't even be there, but more importantly, don't have to go at all! :-) For my own future reference, use the search term BIG LETTERS BIG NUMBERS and sit back and have the damn thing delivered. I'd have paid twice what it cost me, that's how easy it was.
gentleman caller,
sometimes easier to be a brain in a jar,
holidays: christmas,
my own competence astounds me
