My Take On Voting And Politics )

Meh, it's not about right or wrong people voting, unless stupid people are the wrong people, then yes. People should vote, but vote responsibly, as I said.. but the vast majority of people do not do that. They do not research the candidates, they latch on to a catch phrase. Have you seen the video of the woman who went to an Obama rally, saying that she won't have to worry about gas in her car, if he wins? That's /stupid/. She has to work, has to take responsibility for herself... that kind of person shouldn't vote, unless she really looks at the choices.

If someone is diametrically opposed to my belief system and they have looked at the issues and actually considered their position, they better damn well vote. We're built on diversity... I'm not talking about disagreeing. I hated the Republicans down south, because of their stupid voting too. I'm completely non-partisan in my hate of stupid people.

But please, I love you dearly, but spare me the 'we need to be the change' crap. We need to be responsible, not just demanding change. There would be change even if McCain was elected, because he is not a Bush clone. Congress wouldn't let him be.

As for the checks and balances, the Democratic agenda is now our way of life. In 4 years, that will change, I imagine, as there are more congress elections and the Republicans fight back. If I remember right, this is the reverse of the way the 80s were. The country has never blown up after an election, one man is not going to make or break things.

People in elected office are there to stay in that office, not work for the people. I hate people.

Being responsible and change are pretty much the same thing in this case.

Usually being responsible means making some changes like driving less, not over extending yourself on credit, paying attention to where your children are after school, not punching people in the face, spay and neutering your pet.

I find it really ironic that in the same post you talk about people not wanting to be responsible, then about your secret wish to be saved. Maybe you should be the change you seek, take some responsibility, and save yourself.

You'll also note that, in the part where I talk about wanting to be saved, I state very clearly that it's a stupid notion, and that I need to work on my issues myself. So, really, I've got that part covered.

Being responsible and change are NOT the same thing. At all. Being responsible when it comes to voting means you look at the issues, think about things, compare them with your own beliefs and values and choose a candidate that is most in line with those. I voted for McCain, because I felt his economic policies were most in line with my own, and the biggest issue that we're going to face is the economy. I also voted for him, taking a great leap of faith that nothing would happen to him. His running mate terrifies me.

But, see, you're starting to prove my point about listening. You don't like what I have to say, assume I'm a raging Republican (I'm registered non-partisan). I'm talking about encouraging people to vote, but not vote because someone tells them how to vote, but make their own choices.

I didn't make any assumptions for who you voted for. And I have many friends that canvassed to get out the vote. Which was: telling people how/where to register, informing them of their polling place and collecting chairs for elderly people who had to wait in long lines. They were getting out the VOTE, not telling people who to vote for. They believe (like I do ) that everyone should vote. Not just in big important presidential elections, but in local ones as well. Which in some ways are more important than the circus we as a country just went through.

If you think getting out the vote is telling people who to vote for, then that's YOUR assumption.

Democrats and Republicans and Green Party members all tried to persuade people who to cast their vote for. That's just part and parcel of living in society.

And what if someone thought you knew shit about economics, and that you were an idiot when it came to finance. Under your ideas about smart thoughtful voting, you would not count as an "informed' voter.

As for being rescued, you say that you know it's silly. But it's a theme that has appeared more than once in your journal. And the fact that you say you have a tendency to run away from things enforces the idea that you may mentally "know" it's silly, but you continue to look for escape/rescue anyways.

And you're right, I don't like what you have to say. Not because of some assumed political allegiance you think I have, but because you are being a bitter angry asshole.

People are happy, they have hope, just because you've given up on everything and decided that everything sucks doesn't mean that other people can't have a moment to feel good about the future.

If is McCain won you would still find something to bitch and moan about. You just are being mean. Grow up Becky. Get a grip. if your life sucks so much maybe you should change it. Oops I mean take responsibility for it.

Again, you're not understanding what I'm saying.

It's not about agreeing with someone. It's about people who do not take the time to look at the issues and choose a stance. They accept what they're fed and don't think past their own nose. I'm talking about ignorant voting.

But, you'll also notice I don't disparage people's jubilation in their own blogs. Now that people are calming down and talking rationally, it's better. I'm enjoying reading what they actually think. I'm glad people have hope. I hated the OMG KINGDOM COME crap. If McCain won and the Republicans did the same thing, yes, I'd be annoyed then too. That's my fucking right.

The best part of America is that we can agree to disagree. Though, really... listen. That's all I axk. But I guess I'm the one that has to grow up, right? Stone cold bitch, baby.
