The autumn air was cool and crisp. Most of the leaves had fallen off the trees and had covered the yard in a blanket of brown, red, yellow, and orange. A light childish laughter mixed and blended with a deeper, more masculine laughter.
Tim paused in his raking to watch Roy and Lian chase each other around the yard. They each scooped up arm loads of leaves and tossed them at each other. They only stopped when their laughter caused them to double over in an attempt to catch their breath. At one of these rest breaks Lian looked over at Tim and realized he wasn't joining in on their fun.
“Daddy, Papa's not playing with us - he's working,” Lian said accusingly.
Roy paused as he eyed Tim with mischief dancing in his eyes. “Your right Princess, Papa isn't playing with us. We'll just have to fix that.”
Tim smiled at his lover backing away, “Now come on we'll never get the raking done if all we do is play.”
Roy only smiled wider. Without warning he charged at Tim, tackling him into a pile of leaves behind them. Lian shrieked with laughter as she followed them into the pile of leaves. Between the two of them, they buried Tim in more leaves. Tim fought back by grabbing hand fulls of leaves and stuffing them down Roy's shirt and throwing them in Lian's hair.
Soon all three were gasping for breath, their laughter ringing through the yard. The three of them leaned back in the pile of leaves, happy to just be together.
