I’ve loved Emily VanCamp ever since she was on Everwood, yet I still wasn’t sure about this show when it first was promoted for the fall. I wasn’t sure about the plot and skeptical that it could be good from what I did know. But it’s spectacular, or at least the first part of the season was.
Without giving things away, Emily Thorne (Emily Van Camp) is new to the Hamptons. She's met some of her wealthy neighbors, has made a few new friends and seemingly blends into the town. But something is a little odd about a young girl living in a wealthy town all on her own, and the truth is that Emily isn't exactly new to the neighborhood. In fact, this was once her old neighborhood, until something bad happened that ruined her family and their reputation. Now Emily is back, and she's returned to right some of those wrongs in the best way she knows how - with a vengeance.
The first half of the season was spectacular; the second half, I’m reserving judgment. It’s got a great cast and very good characters, so I hope they do it justice. A friend told me I HAD to watch it about halfway through the first part of the season; I devoured the episodes once I started the first one. It's addictive and intriguing. There really isn't anything I like better than well-developed characters... and many of these have layers to their layers.
