My last night in Delaware for a while

The trial is all finished.

Things went really well. It was a bench-trial, so it will be many months before there is a definitive result - both sides still have a large window to submit their closing briefs and counter arguments to eachother and the court.

Tonight we had our team dinner and the client was very pleased at how well the trial went, specifically pointing out the support he saw coming from the staff (2 Paralegals, 3 Secretaries, and specifically "The Hot Seat Guy" -- that's me). On last Monday's team debrief meeting after the first day of the trial, the client stood up and said "Our hot-seat guy is way better than their hot-seat guy". That sentiment carried for the duration.

After dinner this evening, I joined a few of the team in the hotel bar for some drinks, and now I'm back in the room, about to pack up all my stuff for a really early morning flight home to San Diego.

The clearest sign that this was a GREAT trial team: I got to sleep 5 to 8 hours every night. I never had to do an all-nighter, and that's really rare in my job.

There's another trial back here in Delaware at the end of August that I'm already lined up for... and potentially another one in September, but it's likely that one will push further back on the calendar.

It's a really good feeling to know I'm in demand. ;)
