So I've Been Doing Some Thinking

Oct 22, 2009 08:27

Monday morning I was driving through Roswell, NM, when I heard a story on the radio about the death of Baby Brianna. Just listening to the description made me physically ill. And I decided that I had had enough. I've heard too many stories about child abuse and I decided that I wanted to do something about it. But what could I do? Then I started thinking about what I have been doing for the past 11 years : Driving a truck. Then I recalled there is an organization called Bikers Against Child Abuse and I thought to myself what if I started a group called Truckers Against Child Abuse.

Great, I got a name.

Now what?

Heck, I dunno.

I don't know the first thing about starting a group of any kind.

But I do know that I would want to accomplish the following :

1) Education. Get into high schools and colleges to promote awareness. Odds are there is someone being abused.

2) Work with Child Protection Services to offer counseling and foster care placement.

3) Work with law enforcement to report child abuse.

4) And get the trucking industry behind it. While I am not an Over-the-Road driver, there are many that are, and sometimes a simple bumper sticker or t-shirt with a number on it might be seen by someone who needs help.

So, if anyone has any ideas on how to start something like this, please, let me know. I have been doing some research, but my scope is limited as I really am not sure *what* I need to be researching.

Oh, and can anyone out there draw?
