I haven't update in forever as usual, but this bit of news is too good not to share. I got a job doing psychological research! One of the clinical profs (Dr. Hayden if anyone has heard of her) was looking for an assistant to help collect data on 7 year olds and their parents. Hey guys, thanks for your comments! Now, to answer your questions, Dr. Hayden is expecting the study to last for about 2 years - she wants to end up with 200 families participating - yowza! And I get to be in charge of orchestrating the whole thing. Fun!

What we're looking at is how a child's temperament (a fancy word akin to personality) affects one's cognitive abilities. Specifically, we are focused on using temperament as a risk factor of depression to see if it is associated with a cognitive set that suggests the future emergence of depression. As a proxy for the child's likelihood of getting depression when they are older, we interview their parents, looking for past or present cases of depression or dysthymia. Interesting stuff!
