Okay! Because I am bored, but mostly because my friend Zory's post inspired me, I wanted to write an entry about self-love!
In the past couple of weeks (I'm sure due in major part to the anxiety and "offness" I've been dealing with) I have kind of been going through a bit of a self-loathing phase, and I hate that... no one should ever hate themselves or criticize themselves too much. We should always remember to appreciate and celebrate the things that we love about ourselves; I really think that is so freaking important for your self-confidence and mood.
I would love it if you, my lovely friends, would post things that you love about yourselves in the comments section of this post! Try to make a list of five, or ten.
As for me?
Ten things I love about myself are:
1. Most importantly, I love my relationship with myself, and my mind's inner-workings. I love that I consistently am learning about myself, growing, becoming a more layered person as I age. I am constantly fascinated by my brain from day to day, the way it morphs, travels, digs, sleeps, pries, solves problems, works against itself sometimes, etc. Some days I can't stand to be in my own skin or my own brain, and I suffer from sometimes-crippling personal battles/mental illness, but I take that stuff as it comes and I feel like it's just another dimension of myself that makes me who I am. I like to use my flaws in order to help myself grow.
2. I love my relationship to music. It is one of the most important, major parts of my life. My heart is open to such a vast field of all kinds of music and I am glad that I can deeply appreciate so many types of musical expression.
3. I love my expressive eyes, my goofy chin, my tiny feet, my (50% pencilled-in) eyebrows, and I really love my shoulder freckles and wish I had even more of them. I also love my hair and am grateful that it is healthy and manageable, and always smells good!
4. I love my sense of humour. I can appreciate almost any kind of humour, and I ALWAYS can find a reason to laugh even in the most trying situations. Some of my friends actually have jokingly nick-named me "
Dr. Hibbard" in the past, hah.
5. I love the fact that I am at least semi-skilled in quite a few different creative arts. It's nice because I tend to go through phases where I like doing something more than something else, say, I'd rather focus on ink drawings than photography for a year, or I'll get really into my musical pursuits and put my drawing on the back-burner. I love that I have a creative, artist's soul.
6. I love the fact that I insist on always seeing both sides of the coin. This is one of the main reasons I have almost never had any kind of major fight with a friend. I am a very fair, understanding and reasonable person, and I've always really liked that about myself. I've been told by countless friends that I am one of the most trustworthy people they know and that I am an excellent listener/give good advice. One of my favourite things to do when someone is angry/frustrated/having a problem of some sort with another person, is to play devil's advocate and help people to see the other side of things.
7. I love my sexuality and my total open-mindedness about pretty much any and all sexual persuasions/perversions, even the dark corners of human sexuality.
8. I love my nerdy, science-geek side so much. Astronomy, astro-physics, quantum physics/string theory, my ghost fascination, my obsession with nature and my life-long smitten-kittenness of nerd boys and girls (of course stemming from my childhood crush on Cedric Sneer from The Raccoons). I love big fat brains, and I love my brain and my never-sated hunger for knowledge.
9. I love the life I have lived so far. I can't even go in to much of a schpiel about this because it would probably get way too long, but for the most part, I have had a really great life, full of all kinds of adventure, love, highs, lows, amazing experiences, outstanding people, and incredibly fulfilling memories. I rarely take my life, past or present, for granted, because even on the worst of days I am happy to be alive and have awesome memories to fall back on, not to mention countless things to look forward to.
10. I love my emotional strength. It has taken me a lifetime of lessons to get to where I am at this point in my emotional development, and I am very proud of my perseverance... no matter what hells I've been through, no matter what awful things it sometimes took for me to make it through to the next day, I always push myself to get stronger and smarter every single time and I feel like I have become a very independent-minded, powerful woman because of that.
