Behold the power of Paleo!

So I had my physical assessment today at the gym.  Basically my personal trainer wanted to see where I was physically and establish a baseline to gauge my progress five weeks down the road.  Now, I have been going to the gym for about three weeks ( not hardcore having only gone on my own to work out without the trainer twice so far).  Prior to signing up for the gym I would do some cardio on my treadmaster maybe once or twice a week. Following the Paleo diet steadily since completing the move to Casa Da Dobbs back in February ( albeit it with a few blips on the screen when co-workers tempt me with baked goods).  The only other exercise I get is when I chase people, get out of my car and walk around ( foot patrols) or get in fights ( which hasn't happened in a while ( knock on wood)).

So I  know I have been trimming down even more and I can feel the difference.  What I can see, I can see I am much lighter in girth then I was before.  In essence very sporadic exercise for the most part combined with a healthy Paleo Diet.

So, I get weighed, measured and do a physical endurance test which consists of different activities ( rowing 500 meters  as fast as I can, do x amount of pull ups, push ups, and sit ups as fast as I can etc etc).  The result being on a scale of five rankings ( elite being the top) I am number four in terms of physical fitness just under elite.  My weigh in was 221 ( but weight fluctuates throughout the day as I weighed in at 218 this morning) and my body fat % was 20. Thus, I have 177 lbs of lean muscle and 44lbs of fat.  Which the trainer says is pretty darn good. She said she didn't think I needed to lose that much more fat but instead was planning on toning me up.

BMI puts me at about 26% ( back around Thanksgiving I was 30%). Now BMI is highly misleading as evident by my muscle to fat ratio . According to the BMI charts out there I am considered overweight. Which is much better then I was a year or two ago when I was considered obese.   Yet again though, the BMI is not an accurate picture.

If anything this reaffirms the wisdom of switching over to a Paleo Lifestyle.  I am supposed to get some blood work done next week  for the insurance people to see how well I have done since last October ( I believe that is when the original test was done).  That will help tell the tale at least somewhat as I did lapse during the holidays and during the move.
