I was reading that book again (that would be Fast Food Nation - there's a rant against it somewhere down there) and when he got to the part about what goes in the food and he tries to make us be suspicious of everything we buy and get angry at the meatpackers for daring to not care that they're poisoning us, I got an idea. So I went back and highlighted every single mention of E. coli 0157:H7 in blue and every mention of Salmonella in green. And somehow, my anger just... went away. I transcended the book. Now I laugh at it a lot, and I'm only 45 pages from the end.
Problem is, tomorrow's my last day, and I'm going to be extremely busy -- packing boxes, packing suitcases, going to see that documentary on Andy Goldsworthy's stuff (which is really great - you should check it out), having a last dinner with my family, and getting to bed early enough that I can get up around 6am Eastern Time, fly out to California, visit people (have I mentioned I'm extremely introverted?) and still make it through to some time around 10pm Pacific Time. That's 19 hours of hard work, people, and I don't get paid for any of it.
So I might not get any reading done. In that case, I'll probably do it in the airport and on the flight. It might even let me recoup some, since reading = not paying attention to the world around me, which is a good simulation of being alone, the situation I need to regain energy.
Yep, that's right -- I'm a demon who feeds on silence.
