The Art of Losing, Part II

I'm reading Microserfs. I thought that it would be overly cynical, snooty, and irreverent and that it would only irritate the clap out of me and that I would chuck it across the room at something very soft so as not to crease the thing since it is actually a borrowed copy. And, no, I do not really have the clap.

Shut up.

Thankfully, I was wrong about the cynicism and irreverence. It's actually pretty clever and sweet. The talk around memory, machines, biostructure, human relationships, and affection in general is sincere and engaging without being saccharine. It's a great thing to read on vacation.

I recovered my bag from Lotus, by the way. Everything was intact except my wallet, Boy's iPod, and . . . the nifty pen! I can't believe they took the nifty pen! My checkbook was there with all of its checks intact, even, but they took the nifty pen!

Somebody out there is listening to Dead Moon and playing hangman with a really nifty pen. Or maybe they're deleting the Wanda Jackson tunes while picking their ear with the blunt end of a really nifty pen.

I wish my ID card luck in its new career as a fake ID for some 19-year-old hapa chick with dark hair.

The moral of this story is: always carry a large dildo in your purse and/or handbag because, if it gets snatched, you can take comfort in the fact that some unfortunate somebody just unwillingly wrapped their hands around a big, silicone cock.
