Anzu GARDNER

 I have no angry or exasperated icons. Sad-zaku will have to do. I was pleasantly surprised to find Yu-Gi-Oh! R at the library tonight, so I grabbed all they had, volumes 1-3. They translated Pegasus's name as Maximillion J. Pegasus, which weird because all the rest of the manga sticks with Crawford, and R uses everyone else's original names. Also ( Read more... )

Did you forget about them calling Bakura "Ryu," calling Mai "Miss Shiranui," and having Mokuba refer to his brother as "Kaiba"? I think ALL of those are worse than Anzu Gardner for one panel...but yeah, the Yuugiou manga translation people kind of store their heads up their butts. >_>

Yeah, I know those ones are all really bad, but this one just rubs me the wrong way because they mixed in a name they've never used before. At least Kaiba and Ryu were actually their names in Japanese... as for Mai, I thought maybe the kanji for Kujaku could be read as "shiranui". It's still stupid, but... this one just seems so much worse to me. And they kept the "Ryu" thing somewhat consistent. I feel like making a video of all these mistakes now. XD It would go well with my sub/dub rants comparisons.

Well, "Ryou"..."ryu" means dragon. That's a different thing. Written with a differet character. And ohnononono, Mai Shiranui is a character from a video game series. They gave her the name of another character ENTIRELY.

The Kaiba one just bugs me because Mokuba called him "nii-sama" so consistently...and it's not that hard to translate. It gives me de facepalmings.

...but yes! I still feel bad I missed your second panel this year. ;__;
