I was afraid that the Episcopalians were going to cave an "apologize" to the rest of the Anglican Communion for ordaining a gay bishop. But not only have they elected a woman as Presiding Bishop, she's said flat-out that homosexuality is not a sinOf course, the usual suspects are pitching hissy fits. but lonely as they agreed not to ordain any more openly gay bishops.

I was disappointed when they did that, but I do think it's a temporary thing.

It wasn't the CofE so much--it was some of the other churches in the Anglican Communion, in particular, the Nigerian church.

If I'm recalling correctly, it was more in order to give them time to really consider what should be done, how best to deal with the issue while minimizing the chance of a rift within the Episcopal church US. They're in an interesting spot, really, because while it's pretty easy for me as a layperson to bitch around and say "if they don't like gay clergy they can leave," but the clergy itself is responsible not just for me, but for the entire body of the US Episcopal church. I think it's less easy -- or useful -- for them to go all hard-line, especially in a denomination that really works hard to be inclusive.
