Almost enough to make me go back to church

I was afraid that the Episcopalians were going to cave an "apologize" to the rest of the Anglican Communion for ordaining a gay bishop. But not only have they elected a woman as Presiding Bishop, she's said flat-out that homosexuality is not a sinOf course, the usual suspects are pitching hissy fits. From the conservative Episcopalians, we get Rev. Kendall Harmon telling the Associated Press that the new presiding bishop was chosen with complete disregard for Episcopalians who disagree.

Wasn't she elected? Isn't that the point of running a church as a demoncracy -- the minority doesn't rule?

If they want to run their church like a dictatorship, they should just go be Catholics.

Mmm. And not just elected, but elected with a sizeable majority. On the last of five ballots cast in the House of Bishops, Bishop Schori received 95 votes (Bp. Jenkins 82 votes). In the House of Deputies in the Lay Order, 93 of 108 dioceses consented; in the Clergy Order, 94 of 108 Dioceses consented.

Dude! Huzzah for her and the Episcopalians. That's what I was brought up as, on the sparse occasions we went. Sometimes I still miss it.

Wow, that's great news. *hugs*

GIP.

;)

Kidding -- I've started going to church for reasons of support and networking during my mom's illness, but of all the churches I've tried, the Episcopal church's teachings come the closest to matching my own understanding of the divine.

Hee. Love it. :) I have to say that if I were going to go to a church other than the non denominational one I occasionally attend, it would be Episcopal. *g*

but lonely as they agreed not to ordain any more openly gay bishops.

I was disappointed when they did that, but I do think it's a temporary thing.

It wasn't the CofE so much--it was some of the other churches in the Anglican Communion, in particular, the Nigerian church.

Damn. I'm impressed. But that whole "daughter of satan" thing is so loving and warm and fuzzy.
