For
shineko291 who wanted this plunnie to come to life, which I have hopefully started to do.
"Turn it up, dongsaeng," Yunho ordered distractedly as he looked around the ER waiting room, waiting for news- even rumors- from anyone. Changmin, slightly on edge, jumped before getting up to fiddle with the dials on the hospital TV.
In other news today the members of teen-pop idol Dong Bang Shin Ki were rushed to the hospital after a set of stage lights came loose during a special performance of their Japanese single, "Choosey Lover." The details of the accident are largely unknown and SM Entertainment as yet to make a statement concerning the incident or the conditions of the celebrities.
The reporter moved on to a different topic, but Yunho and Changmin had stopped listening. They were about as clueless to the conditions of the other three members as the public was and the report had put everything into a startling perspective. Changmin had escaped damage entirely, having been on the other side of the stage at the time of the accident. Yunho, who was closer, sustained some minor injuries- little more than a few cuts and bruises- due to some pieces of metal that had flown off on impact.
The other three weren't as lucky.
They had been standing almost directly under the lights when the wires holding them gave way and were currently still in the ER without a single word of news coming back to their fellow members on their conditions.
Things were already nerve-wracking as it was without this extra drama. The accident was a blur in the minds of Yunho and Changmin. Fragments came here and there, intense in detail, each more startling then the last; the sudden screams from the fans; a startled shout- impossible to tell which one of them it belonged to- that was much too late; the crash- booming and horrifying and terribly arresting; and blood- oh God... blood.
The stadium was instantly a flurry of chaos.
Ambulances, paramedics, staff, just people- all of them pushing, pressing- demanding again and again- What happened? Are you okay? Does anything hurt?
Yunho tried to cut them off, asserting himself without hearing them, yelling his own mantra back- Jaejoong-ah! Jaejoong-ah! Junsu-ah! Yoochun-ah! Jaejoong-ah! Answer me God-frickin'-dammit! Let me see them! I'm fine! Let me see them!
Changmin, not far from Yunho, was likewise surrounded, completely dazed, and- for the first time in his life- unable to process what was going on. The confusion built up like pressure in a heated aerosol can until something clicked and panic set it. He stood abruptly causing the people around him to start violently.
Junsu-hyung! Yoochun-hyung! Jaejoong-hyung! His cries rang out clear over the disorder with his skills of projection in vain.
Why? Why aren't they answering?!
There seemed to be a lapse in time and there Yunho and Changmin found themselves where the were at the moment, waiting for news, rumors, whispers, anything.
Unable to take helpless inaction anymore, Yunho dropped to his knees, not caring where he was or who saw, and prayed- preayed harder than he ever had in his life- to God, Jesus, Buddha... anyone that might listen to him.
Please... Just...
Let him be okay.... if you have to hurt someone, let it be me... let him- them- be okay...
A strong hand gripped his shoulder and he grabbed it without a second thought, raising reddened eye's to meet Changmin's familiar figure. The younger singer smiled at him encouragingly, pointing to an approaching doctor with his chin. Yunho threw himself to his feet, anxious.
"Jung Yunho-shii? Shim Changmin-shii?"
They nodded slowly in reply, anxiety preventing them from greater action.
"I'm Dr. Lee Jin. I have good news that might sound rather bad. Park Yoochun-shii has a mild concussion, a broken nose that should heal up nicely, and here is a prescription for his crutches. His ankle was sprained as he twisted out of the way. Tylenol should be strong enough to dull the pain, but if it isn't don't hesitate to bring him back so we can find something a little stronger. A nurse should be down with him shortly, but he may seem somewhat dazed.
" Kim Junsu-shii is a little less lucky. The bones in his right forearm and wrist shattered under one of the lights. He's finishing up in surgery. They placed twelve pins in his arm. He also suffered some minor trauma to his back. He'll be awake in about an hour. he'll most likely be dizzy and vague from the painkillers. Here's a prescription for those.
"And as for Kim Jaejoong-shii... he seems to have miraculously escaped a good bit of physical damage. He hit his head rather hard, either on the stage or on the lights- we're unsure of which. He has a nasty gash on his head- 10 stitches- and there is a great possibility that he sustained some head trauma. Everything should be clearer when he regains consciousness which we think will be soon. He's not quite ready for visitors yet, but we'll call you in when he is.
"Please don't worry. Your friends are expected to make full recoveries," the doctor smiled and a tide of relief washed over Changmin and Yunho. The latter, weak-kneed at the news, flopped bonelessly into a chair, muttering indisting thank you's and heaving sobbing/laughing broken sighs.
Changmin, more composed and eyes sparkling, shook the doctor's hand thanking him in lieu of his overwhelmed hyung. He was about to drop next to the older man, emotionally exhausted, butjust as the doctor retreated, a nurse approached them, pushing Yoochun along in a wheelchair. His weariness disappeared under a layer of elation, his feet carrying him to the baritone before he knew what he was doing. He was surprised when Yunho somehow beat him there and was already kindly thanking the nurse and taking over as Changmin reached them.
The tenor grinned at the dazed-as-predicted man, "How do you feel, 'Chunnie-hyung?"
"Like someone shoved a box of tissues up my nose with a hammer, then hit it a couple of times for good measure."
A raucous laugh tore from Yunho and Changmin, born of equal parts nerves and relief and humor as they wheeled down the corridor and to the side, locking the wheels before sitting back down in the waiting room.
"Hey, How're 'Su n' Jae?" Yoochun inquired sleepily after a moment.
Yunho and Changmin exchanged looks before giving him an answer, "Junsu-hyung's coming out of the OR pretty soon."
"What?"
They could feel the sudden chill that ran through Yoochun's blood.
"One of the lights hit his arm and the bone shattered, they had to put pins in his arm," Yunho answered stiffly, shuddering a bit.
"Jae-hyung is unconscious still and he needed some stitches. Other than the bump to the head, he seems to be mostly fine, but...but the doctor said that he could be suffering from some head trauma; they won't know the extent of it until he wakes up."
"No... Jae... Su..."
"They're going to be fine, Yoochun. We all are," Yunho suddenly asserted, sounding determined for it to be true.
The next hour proved to be nearly as unbearable as the tense confusion before they received news from the doctor. Conversation was tense and limited between the three. With the immediate conditions of two-fifths of their whole unknown, they couldn't relax a single bit. They jumped at every doctor that passed by, threw imploring looks towards nurses, intensely alert as they waited.
Finally, after another relentless hour of uncertainty, a nurse wheeling Junsu around appeared in the corridor. Yunho and Changmin stood, smiling broadly next to Yoochun who had a fool's grin dancing on his lips and in his eyes, not moving from his side, arms open to welcome the baritenor back.
Ignoring the startled protest from the nurse, Junsu stood and walked the rest of the way to meet them, determined to walk straight through the haze he was in.
"'Su!" Yunho scolded immediately, jogging over to help the younger boy who was having trouble managing his feet. They bickered lightly on the way to where the others were, a spark lighting in all of their eyes at the sudden almost-normalcy of the situation.
Once back to their seats, Junsu turned to Yoochun, appraising the mask/cast on the latter's face, soon switching his gaze to the tight bandaging around Yoochun's ankle.
A dazed burble of laughter escaped his lips after a moment.
"Eunkyangkyang! Shit, and I thought I had it bad!"
The other three exchanged bewildered expressions.
"Uh..."
"Junsu-hyung..."
"Are you alright?"
The baritenor stopped laughing abruptly and put on a serious face, nodding vigorously, "Of course I am. It's just a little cast and a back brace and... woah... dizzy..."
Concerned, Changmin and Yunho all but pushed Junsu into a chair and sat on either side, hovering over him and fretting hennishly with Yoochun chiming in from the sidelines every once in a while. They were so busy fussing over the baritenor that it completely escaped them for a brief moment that they still didn't know how Jaejoong was doing- the first time they had been successfully distraced from their gnawing anxiety.
"Umm... oppa?" A soft voice startled them out of thier little bubble. The looked up to see a young nurse wringing her hands nervously around a clipboard. Encouraged by their attention, she smiled weakly and continued.
"Dr. Lee wanted me to inform you that you may see Jaejoong-oppa now if you wish."
The smile that emerged on Yunho's face was blinding. He scrambled to his feet immediately, eager to see his lover, but turned back agitatedly, not about to forget his duties as a leader and a hyung.
They smiled back at him encouragingly, understanding written on their features. Changmin waved him away gently, "Go on, hyung. I've got it under control."
Yunho had never been more thankful for his friends or the fact that Changmin was so responsible.
Following the nurse, Yunho had to keep himself in check, carefully trying not to overtake her in his impatience, but it did nothing for the bubbling bot of anxiety that worried at his insides.
Smiling shyly, the nurse soon ushered him into a room before departing to help the others.
Yunho closed the door behind him, wishing that he could have prepared himself more. The sight of Jaejoong motionless and paler than usual in a hospital, surrounded my a miasma of softly beeping machines was enough to turn his stomach.
The leader wouldn't allow himself to approach cautiously, or to hesitate though; his Boojae was going to be fine and would hate it if he knew that Yunho wasn't confident in that fact and had treated him like a man on his death bed. Yunho clenched his teeth purposefully as he sat next to the bed and took the older man's hand in his own, willing himself to not start tearing.
"You... get better, Boo. I'm- we're all- waiting for you." Yunho whispered fiercely into the almost silence.
Like Sleeping Beauty awaking at true love's first kiss, the main vocalist's eyes opened and he blinked sleepily before looking around. Upon seeing Yunho's shocked, though overjoyed face, he shot up, scooting back, eyes wide.
Yunho stood, concerned, "Boojae, what's-"
""Where am I? Who are you? Where're umma and appa?!"
And with that, Jaejoong dissolved into howling sobs.

I'm not entirely happy with this. Jaeho is actually really hard for me to write so it's a nice sort of challenge, but I think that my difficulty kinda lowered the quality of the fic. Eh... hopefully it'll get better.
I must say that the progression of this fic in my head, while five-year-old Jae should be pretty cute and fluffy, will probably progress towards angst. The potential was there and it just took off in my head. This isn't to say that it's going to be all angst... eh, now I don't know what I'm saying.
Lastly, I have to ask that if anybody reading this wants to friend me, please leave me a comment or a message first, because while I appreciate the random strain of people friending me, I'd like to know a little bit about who and why first. Thanks!
