So my weekends are never really relaxing. In fact, I'm usually more busy and stressed out during the weekends than the weekdays. I guess that's what happens when you work with kids, and do birthday parties.
More importantly, Five things that brighten a day when you feel like all you can do is collapse onto the cold, icy street:
1. Someone waiting for you.
Where ever they are. Whoever they are. For whatever reason, they're waiting. Maybe you made plans, maybe they just want to talk with you, maybe their waiting for a response from a phone call, or waiting for the next time they'll see you. That little thought of them waiting gives me that extra strength to get going and see that face as soon as possible.
2. Food.
Okay, perhaps this is because I am a foodie/fatty/kid-who-loves-cake, but after a long day of work I'm usually starving and just want comfort in the form of something warm and delicious. It's really comforting to feel like you deserve it though. You have worked hard, now you get to really enjoy something. A lot of these days I let myself eat out, or eat something a little less healthy than I usually do. In this way, I don't worry and purely enjoy. Life is about enjoyment right, so we shouldn't leave food or eating out of that mixture.
3. A comforting place.
I just wanted to be home after work today. Home can be kind of a vague term when you're a college student in a not-so-permanent state of anything. Yet there are two places I felt like that meant home. One was at my apartment, with my boyfriend and my kitten. Although it's partially underground, kind of messy, and cold. It's comforting to go there and know that it's a space I can relax. Of course, the second place was my actual childhood home. That will always be a warm place for me, even if it gets frustrating sometimes. That relaxing, be yourself, atmosphere where you don't have to be on guard is nice.
4. Blankets.
This is probably a little weather-biased, but it's always comforting to have something material and warm that you can cling to. Even in the summer I like to have a sheet or something on me when I go to sleep. I might kick it off, but that feeling makes me feel better. Having that on the couch in my apartment is nice. It's warming physically and allows me to burrow up into a sleepy, tired ball.
5. Excitement for future events
While it may sound strange, sometimes just that thinking of what the next day will bring is all that I need to pull myself up and keep going through one day. There is always something exciting coming up. Even if it's small. You can even just come up with something. I like to keep a countdown on my phone for dates that are near and far. I have the super bowl, valentines day, and my birthday all on my countdown. This like ranges from the teens to 200s. Either way, excitement is in the air!
