I am grateful for birthdays. The idea of celebrating the day someone was born, how long they've been on this earth, and how much more they can do in their life is a wonderful thing. Plus each person has their own special day to gloat and be in the spotlight.
Mine was Wednesday, the 22nd, and a 21st birthday.
So of course, I went to my first bar at midnight. Let me tell you, I have never danced so much in my life. The darkness being cut in half by flickering candles and colorful, changing streams of light caught me by surprise, as did the outlines of dark figures that were hard to discern from the others that sat at the bar. Yet after a lemon drop shot and a drink was bought, everything seemed to be okay. I just danced. Even if no one else was. I did not stop dancing until it was time to leave, get Ian's pizza, and head on home.
Luckily enough, when I awoke I was cheerful and excited for my birthday. Even class couldn't get me down. Class even made things better by not giving me a quiz and instead giving me 3 big As. Even my workout at the gym began with a Happy Birthday from the staff. As class ended I bounded out of the building, grabbed my boyfriend, and made my way to my Sis-in-law's for nieces and lasagna. The food was delicious, I got to dance with a 3 year old, crawl with a baby, and watch venture brothers. Life is great already.
Then I am driven to our friend's house where a birthday gift is promised. At first things seemed strange, mainly because there was an odd purse in their living room and the table was moved, but the biggest surprise was what awaited in the kitchen. My fabulous friend wearing only underwear and an apron holding two epic plates of Bailey's chocolate cupcakes. I was shocked, confused, and smiling so much. The cupcakes were homemade, but tasted like they came from a bakery. I about died over them.
Then when I finally made it home I expected homework to await. Instead my boyfriend gives me a t-shirt (That reads "My boyfriend is a sith lord") and a bag with R2D2 and C3PO on it. I'm excited because they're cute enough as is, but wait there are coupons in the bag. I reach in curiously and open an envelope. Bears vs. Packers.
Here is where I almost cried.
He had gotten me Bears vs. Packers tickets for Monday night. We're going to soldier field together to watch the game!
I have never been to a football game. I love the Bears. I hate the Packers. This will be epic.
Thank god for sending this boy my way.
Not only did he do that, but when my printer ran out of ink at midnight and I freaked out because I had to print 20 copies for a short story for Thursday he did everything he could to help me get ink. We walked to Walgreens at about 2 and bought ink.
Did I ever mention I have the best boyfriend ever?
