Would there be a way of asking for an advance of your wages? They might be keen when they realise it's so you can accept another job.

Sadly no. Not only are the wages paid by BACS (which means that they can't be altered because it's all done by computer), but they've also been ringing me to ask if I can go on even more jobs this week, and were distinctly unimpressed when I explained that I've only got a (very)limited amount of money until next week and I need to save it.
