Heh. Funny story - I actually picked up the wrong book and have been following the wrong program for the last three weeks!

Anyways, the one that I'm doing right now is Lou Schuler's New Rules of Lifting for Women. But the one I was supposed to get based on the recommendation of a blogger I like to follow is Rachel Cosgrove's The Female Body Breakthrough

I think Alwyn Cosgrove, who designed the workout portion of the Schuler plan, is married to Rachel Cosgrove... so that's my explanation of why I got the two mixed up in my head.

For the most part, the Schuler program is similar to something I would do for myself in the weight room (mostly free weights and swiss ball exercises - not much cardio since my commute takes care of that component automatically). The diet portion is pretty straightforward too - it spaces out six mini-meals throughout the day. The basic formula I had to plug in to determine my basal metabolic rate as well as my caloric requirements for workout days returned a somewhat alarmingly high calorie count... so that's where I am right now. The program suggests not making any drastic changes to diet for the first four weeks of the program so that you aren't changing up too many variables at once, but in a couple weeks I will have to start really concentrating on getting lots of lean protein, and maybe not so much pulla.

I have the correct book in the queue at our library as well, though this one is more popular (since it came out more recently). I'll do a side-by-side comparison of the programs once I get it and determine at that time if I want to jump the Schuler ship or keep going for now, with some Cosgrove tweaks.

Incidentally, I also checked out the men's equivalent of the Schuler program for The Mister. It's an older book, and apparently some of the advice was either unsubstantiated (a big no no for The Mister) or has been debunked outright. Schuler mentions as much in his more recent books. So I am taking some of what he says with a little bit of a grain of salt.

We shall see!
