  • I've been haunting a local coffeeshop more and more again. This has allowed me to run into people and chat, quite nice when a whole bunch of them are up and about to leave town.

  • It's interesting to see how people change over time. Physically, mentally, and in other ways too. People gain weight, lost weight, put themselves into unseemly or unusual situations, try new things, go new places, and just in general age. It all leaves an imprint on them, providing new avenues to explore in friendships and interactions.

  • The scale at the gym has finally f'in been fixed. Between the dearth of physical activity and the dearth* of social drinking that's been going on over the last two weeks, I'm not surprised that I haven't dropped below what I was at before traveling, not having gained any weight is quite a nice surprise.

  • In a sort-of related note, lately there's been too. Much. Drinking.

  • In another related note, why does getting back in the groove after a break take an extra hour the first day? I mean, good night, that's annoying. Necessary, but annoying.

  • I think I may finally know how to get past the biggest hurdle that I've been facing in the gym: insufficient arm and back strength. The back strength could easily be taken care of with lots and lots of swimming, but the arms, particularly the forearms, that's been holding me back. Three years plus of dancing tunes your extremities for endurance, not for muscle building.

  • Speaking of this, I got to go rock climbing for the First. Time. Ever. After hitting the gym, I grabbed Mark and wandered of for pizza. We got a call saying "Be there in half an hour", so we finished up and sped off to the Texas Rock Gym. I nearly finished my first route (5-8), completed my second (5-6), and almost finished a third and a fourth (both 5-7). I told Mark afterward to warn me the next time, so that I haven't spent all afternoon exhausting myself before heading out :-). That might be tomorrow evening, we'll have to see

  • In another related note, the Marks can do pull ups like no man's business. Wiry bastards, both of them.

  • Still working on that change of variable stuff. It's not the easiest thing in the world to reparameterize integrals correctly and then numerically implement approximations to them. The first attempt was crap. After I got rid of the infinite loop**...

  • And I got my check back from the city's municipal courts. Seems that the "issuing law agency" never turned the paperwork over, so I guess the ticket doesn't really exist.
That is all, for now.

** God bless the plethora of console output I now program my code to generate incessantly. I find crazy things in seconds or minutes now used to routinely drive me absolutely batty debugging.
